Ways to clean aerobika?

Posted by @ling @wangling, Jan 16, 2023

Hi community,
Could you share your experience of how to clean aerobika? Right now I only soak it in the dish ditergent for 15 minutes. Can you boil it?

Thanks!

Ling

Hi donnaturn,
Thank you so much. That might be a good time to replace it with or without being broken.
take care!

I soak my Aerobika in warm or hot water with Seventh Generation dish soap after each use. I did not know NJH recommended Seventh Generation but that is what I "felt" would be best. I rinse well and even do a final rinse using water from the Lifestraw pitcher. Then shake out any water and dry on paper towels. Then once a week on Sunday, after the usual dish soap soak and rinse, I ALSO soak in alcohol for 5 minutes and rinse. I do the same with my sprint nebulizer cups except I do the alcohol after three treatments. I have two sets of Aerobika and Sprint cups. One for morning and one for evening treatments. This way I can make sure they are perfectly dry before use.

I need to buy an Aerobika. Does anyone have advice on the best source?

I get one from my Respiratory Therapist every 2 years (w/pulmonologist Rx) under Medicare B I pay 20% of cost, but my supplemental insurance usually covers it. I usually use one a year, and buy the other "new in package" from ebay - the last one was about $35, I think.

Thank you. Unfortunately, I don't have a Respiratory Therapist, but will see if my pulmonologist will prescribe.

I put my Aerobika parts in the Bololo baby bottle sterilizer and it works great.

I wash, let soak, rinse and then put mine int he Bololo baby bottle sterlize also. I have LOTS of mucus and there is a lot inside the aerobika after each use. So far washing it after each. use and using the Bololo daily has not hurt it. I have 2 and rotate them.

NJH told me that the Aerobika is good to use for one year, if you buy them through a healthcare facility (such as NJH) they charge far more than if you buy them on ebay. With respect to the Monaghan reusable nebulizers, I was told to replace those and the tubing every 6 months. I have extra tubing, so I will replace the tubing every quarter.

In terms of device disinfection, after every second use of the device, I soak the parts in hot soapy water, then I steam them in a microwavable steamer bag that's typically used to disinfect baby bottles. Another option is to soak the parts in 70% isopropyl alcohol.

I was told that after every first use of the device, I can simply lay the Aerobika parts out to air dry and quickly rinse the nebulizer parts out and air dry.
