Hi w Michelle! Have you seen a doctor about your condition? I have gone to my general practitioner,ENT, and dermatologist about my BMS. Your doctor will have you go for blood test to rule out a autoimmune disease that could be causing the Burning in your mouth. I also have had allergy patches done and nothing seems to be wrong. There seems to be two reasons for this BMS. The first is because of a autoimmune problem and the other is very complicated—The doctors are still trying to unravel. I have had my BMS for 2 years on and off but mostly on. When I am at my worse my lips blow up, like I had a bad Botox job and this last for a day or 2 and also my mouth feels like it has been scolded with hot soup and that can last for months. I don’t have the burning throat thank God., Currently, my mouth feels better but my tongue and roof of my mouth are sore. On a scale of 1-10 I would say I’m a 3 and that is good compared to what other people are experiencing. I am currently taking a supplement called Alpha Lipoic Acid 600mg which has helped some people. My dentist recommended AO ProVantage which is a Antioxidant dental gel. He said this gel had some good success with healing for gum surgery and extreme dry mouth. 🤷♀️ I only started these two things and I know I have to give it sometime..It is very important that you see a doctor who has heard of this condition so you can rule out Autoimmune disease, yeast infection, or bacterial infection. I belong to a BMS support group on Facebook. Now I know you cannot believe everything you read but there are 1,000 ‘s of BMS sufferers that are on this support group. Some you will relate to and some you will not. Many of these people have gone to all kinds of specialist and have gone through all kinds of test and some have found some answers. The conversations a very current but sometimes a little discouraging. This is a very frustrating syndrome but you must stay hopeful and we will prevail 😊
I was treated for burning mount. It was a gargle and mouthwash that I used twice a day for a month. It seems the have helped quite a bit. I don’t know how I acquired this problem but now I am very careful what I put in my mouth, nothing too spicy, nothing too hot especially tea or coffee, nothing too rough like toast or pizza crust. Hopefully the condition will stay in remission. In my case the pain was the front part of my tongue and my palate. However, and I am being facetious here, I can alway distract myself from my oral problems by listening to my tinnitus that roars and screeches 24 hours a day! Don’t wish that on anyone.
I know Xanax is a dirty word for most docs, but I have tried every drug and supplement known to man over 12 years and it is the only one that has consistently helped. A 1/2 mg per nite cuts the pain and helps me sleep. This was prescribed by a UC Davis doctor who had 14 patients with BMS. She told me then If you ever find anything that works stay with it. It saved my sanity.
My doctor was considering me for Xanax to treat my tinnitus however he did warn me that regarding this drug, the patients who he had on Xanax he has never been able to get them off this drug.
I got off at one time, you just have to taper down slowly, like a month at a time, problem is it came back after about three weeks off. Yes, if you stop all at once you will have a reaction.
I was to find a specialist for it,like a dentist. So call around or Google search in your area
It is the worse thing, been dealing with it 8 months,I am going to a specialist which is a dentist that specializes in this.
I have had it for 8 months,I have gone to a couple Ent doctors, urgent care 3 times, two dentist and one of the dentist said it is burning mouth syndrome and he is sending me to a specialist. So look for a dentist or doctor that treats this.I have only one in my area that can treat it,but cannot see her till Feb 20th 2023.I was told from one of the Ent to use mouth wash for dry mouth that has not alcohol, I bought Oral B for dry mouth, and a tooth paste like Tom's or sensitive toothpaste. I guess the best thing that you may do is call around to different dentists or doctors to see if they treat this,or Google it in to see in your area doctor in my area that treats burning mouth syndrome. I wish you luck and do not eat spicy just soft foods, not soda or juice.
I have a similar condition called geographic tongue. Lemon, lime and spicy foods can make it very painful. It looks like the surface of the moon all the time.
