Vicious cycle: Sleep and Depression

Posted by cmd @cmd, Jun 13, 2022

If you can’t sleep you can get depressed and also have anxiety. I’ve never heard of anyone who can’t sleep.
Have any of you know of someone who doesn’t sleep? I’m sub-human for sure.

Welcome @cmd!

You are definitely NOT subhuman! There are a great many people with sleep issues including not being able to sleep. For example, I have problems with not being able to sleep, sleeping too much, and unrefreshing sleep. And, I know several other people with sleep issues too.

And, it is definitely true that sleep problems can lead to or exasperate depression and anxiety.

I use 45mg. Mirtazapine every night. I don’t think I can sleep without it. It gives me 7.5 hrs. of refreshing sleep. I hope you find something soon…..one MUST sleep…period. Good luck.

Usually, a lighter dose is better for sleep, but I found it to be different for me.
Everyone is different!

Me. I get up at least 6 times per night for no reason other than tossing and turning. I am depressed and am very emotionally fragile. Am 79 yo female and feel isolated due to concerns over Covid which I have had.

That is so true. That’s why reading others experiences with medical conditions and treatments may not be so helpful. Mainly due to what you said about the difference in people. I have a friend who has taken benzos for sleep for over twenty years without any issues. While some of us have taken them for short periods and have had severe side effects after taking them or getting off of them.
Thanks for the response.

Sorry. I get up every night as well looking at the clock. I have very severe insomnia.
I use to work out everyday now I’m frozen in fear.
I’m sending good thoughts your way.
