Muscle Spams and Neuropathy
I was diagnosed last year with small and large fiber neuropathy. Originally, the neurologist said that he thought it was a slow-moving peripheral neuropathy. Since then, it has been suggested that this is an atypical polyneuropathy. And things are advancing at a pretty regular basis.
One symptom that has increased significantly over the last couple of months is muscle spasms. I am having them in my lower leg and foot and there is one spasm in particular that just won't stop. It is beginning to last longer and longer. For those of you that have neuropathy, is this a common symptom?

I often have muscle cramps in my legs. Extremely painful at night. I take magnesium. And gabapentin. It is supposed to help. The best is a cream a voltaren.

Do you eat Bananas?
Have you tried the soap (bar in your bed between the sheets)?
Do you do yoga or stretching before bed?
Do you do belly breathing for at least 5 minutes before bed?
My 'to do' list for my leg cramps.
I too have the curling under problem. Now the dr. thinks I have PVD and recommended a surgeon. I take 150 mg trazodone and one HYDROcodone to sleep. The pain pill helps but is constipating, found help in food, tired of laxatives. I think it's time for me to find another doctor.
Gabapentin made me have horrible seizures. It didn’t put me to sleep at all. The neuropathy I have burns from my hips down. Lyrica didn’t help either. It’s so painful.
So sorry to hear. I understand the pain. I also spray liquid magnesium on my legs and wear warm socks and yoga pants to bed. I sleep with a heated blanket. I hope you find some relief.
When I see posts like this, I want to share again about my remarkable success with Tegretol. There is no need to suffer so much until all options have been tried!

Yes, I get one spasm too on my left lower calf that lasts longer. My doctor suggested taking electrolyte replacement daily. I found one, KTN, it is a powder that comes in a packet. It seems to have stopped the spasms.
Amitriptyline works for me, not perfect but better. I can sleep and it stopped the constant burning.
I get bilateral muscle spasms and prickly feelings throughout my legs at night. Very annoying. I have severe radiotherapy that is the reason for nephropathy. Feet are partially numb and tingly all the time. Taking 300mg Lyrica to start,
Chemo therapy treatment caused my neuropathy and yes I have been experiencing spasms, mostly when I wake up in the morning and typically stretch out, that's when I get these muscle spasms in my foot sometimes or in my calf, both legs, some at the same time. I stand up and try to walk to make the spasms go away.
