When in PMR remission: What's your experience with covid vaccine?

Posted by pacarolyn @pacarolyn, Oct 21, 2022

I have delayed getting any of the first Covid vaccines because I was waiting for the NOVAVAX vaccine that was more traditional in its development. It is now available and approved for use. Not many pharmacies have it but COSTCO does. Has anyone gotten this vaccine. What has been your experience so far. It requires two shots, no booster series mentioned but can be taken as a booster for other vax.

PMR and Covid vaccine: Guidance from College of Rheumatology
Many of us in this group have, like myself, experienced a flare or onset of PMR after receiving the Covid vaccine. The decision to proceed with additional doses such as second shots or boosters has perplexed many of us and there is very little guidance available. Here is a link to the current guidelines of the American College of Rheumatology for patients with autoimmune rheumatic and muscular skeletal disorders: https://www.rheumatology.org/Portals/0/Files/COVID-19-Vaccine-Clinical-Guidance-Rheumatic-Diseases-Summary.pdf
I hope this will be of help to those seeking guidance in this regard.

hi, I have PMR and also had covid in mid July. Should I get the "new" covid booster? If yes, when? I'm a bit concerned the shots may have been what started my PMR back in March 2022. thank you

Was already receiving methylprednisolone for PMR when I started the Moderna shots. Have taken the two initial shots and three boosters to date. Only had mild side effects with the first shot. Not had Covid (yet). No experience with the other vaccine.

I have had 4 Moderna vaccines and 1 Pfizer bivalent. I felt a bit puny the day after each one. I have not had COVID. I am a bit suspicious that perhaps one of the boosters could have activated my inflammation and PMR diagnosis.

I have had two covid Moderna shots and 1 booster. Have had covid twice. I think the PMR came after covid booster .
Recently got flu shot. At this time taking no more covid shots.

It was medically recommended to me not to get another booster or flu shot this year. I’ve had Covid & 2 boosters.

I'm wondering if people who are or were in remission got vaccines or boosters and, if so, did they cause a flare?
