Anisometropia (refractive error): Anyone had this?

Posted by kknobb04 @kknobb04, Dec 4, 2022

Has anyone had this? I had a macula off retinal detachment followed by cataract surgery 5 months later. This was 8 years ago. Now that I need glasses to see my eyes can’t tolerate having them on and it is throwing my balance way off. Finding it very difficult to function on a daily basis. One doctor thought it might be comprehensive anisometropia .

Hello and sorry I cannot help you but I did wonder about something. If the eyeglasses have been bothering you since you got them, am wondering if the prescription is wrong.. just a thought as my Dad years ago got his new glasses and had issues and it was months before they discovered the lenses had been installed wrongly, right in left and left in right; also, before I got eye issues (glaucoma etc.) but for driving, reading, put the new glasses on and whoa, felt strange and kept trying them and spouse said, keep wearing, takes time to adjust, but to my mind, we should, as had in the past, put on new glasses and much better, not worse. I put them away, saw a new optometrist and the centre point of one lense was off! It was adjusted and vision back to what it was suppose to be. I know it's a shot in the dark, but just a suggestion/thought; hope you get some comments that can help you. J.

Thanks for the suggestion. Over the last 8 years I have had at least 4 different pairs of glasses and had the same results. Right now I have no line bifocals, lined bifocals, distance only lenses, readers and eye patches. Nothing is helping. My balance is so bad. I can’t walk straight. I can’t walk with my glasses on because my balance is off. I need glasses to see now but can’t wear them

Comprehensive anisometropia? Actually, there really is no such condiion unless you are not reporting what the dr told you. No knowing the specifics of your ocular condition Iwouls say tht you need to have an evaluation by a neurooptometrist who is experienced, and familiar with such condtions. @kknobb04, like @billmoskowitz, @beccahp spoke of her experience with a neuro-opthomologist in this related discussion: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/90261/
@larryh123 @imallears may have some additional experiences to share regarding retinal detachment and more.

Kknobb, have you seen a neuro-opthomologist?

...... again, just from internet search .... one site does suggest trying contact lenses instead of eye glasses, but probably this has already been suggested, also must be costing a lot of money for so many pairs of prescription glasses... wishing you the best outcome, J.

As of now that hasn’t been brought up. I get a referral and then wait the 3+ months for that appointment. In the meantime it gets very frustrating being that I have to go to work but can’t do most of my job

Yes contacts have been discussed. The last dr didn’t recommend them. And yes the glasses are adding up but what choice do I have? Thanks for the suggestions.

yes anisoma tropia can be balanced with contact lenses
or cataract surgery
