Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) Surgery Options
I had a Urolift procedure last February for my BPH symptoms and it was a total failure. The implants are still in position though. I am looking for a different procedure to alleviate my BPH problem and Rezum seems to be a good alternative. Can it be done considering my prior Urolift procedure. If not, what would be your recommendation.

Thank you. I am 80 also. On Tamsulosin for a few years now. Considering REZUM for a while. Was ready to go last year but Urologist lost access to the equipment? Now I am seeing another Urologist in NYC. Got sidetracked when my PSA came up at 5....That is a whole other story. Still considering REZUM.
I have considered Laser in past but concerned about post procedure and confused about what is actually removed.
The medical system is confusing to navigate to come to quality decision.
I go back and forth on procedure versus status quo. I am 80 years of age. Tamsulosin works (morning and evening plus 2 ibuprofen at night).
Well that’s about where I am today. I read somewhere that the best thing to do is nothing if your condition allows it. I feel I’m ok for now on 1 tamsulosin daily. Thanks for your comment, I would be fine with 2 tamsulosin in 10 years.
How long have you been on tamsulosin?
I am 76 and am scheduled for Prostate Artery Embolization on Nov 23. You can click on my screen name above to see my previous discussions about and reasons for trying this least invasive procedure first. I will give you all a full report of the results for me.
Fantastic. I can't wait to know the outcome, so please keep me, us, informed. I wish you a successful procedure!
All the best to you riverpark.
Looking forward to your report.
Having the GREEN LIGHT LASER procedure in a couple of weeks. Just wondering if I leave the hospital with No Foley Catheter? Would I still have to take Tamsulosin after this procedure. Comments from those that have gone trough the GREEN LIGHT....much appreciated.
Hello Cent66! We’re cheering for you as you go through Green Light Laser Treatment, hoping that you are completely satisfied in the end! I did not have “green light” but I did have Holmium Laser Enucleation of Prostate (HOLEP). Upon completion of the procedure, I did wear the Foley for the first night and it was removed the following morning. The Mayo Urologist that performed the procedure told me to stop taking Tamsulosin and Finasteride after the surgery….I’ve been off the medication ever since! Good luck friend on your procedure…..please let us know how it all goes for you!
Thank you....kinda shaky about the whole procedure, but just can't endure the foley forever ( had it since July), Doc says this will be an outpatient surgery about 2 hours, etc. ...unless some problems, no over night. Hoping I can leave without the Foley. Thanks again...I"ll post after procedure to help fill information for others.
Hi. Would appreciate it if you could overview your experience. Did you have a large median lobe? Your age? Size of prostate? Were you completely awake or sedated or under general anesthesia. Did you have catheter and how long? How long after did you experience relief? Thank you.
