Morning blue light for sleep

Posted by hlarsen @hlarsen, Nov 3, 2022

Just read a study that exposure to blue light in the morning increases sleep for PTSD patients. But I don't know where to buy this blue lightsaber box. Is it the same as a sun box for SAD?

Argh spellcheck! Blue lightwave, not blue lightsaber!

Hello @hlarsen, Welcome to Connect. I thought I would post a link to one of the studies on blue light therapy for PTSD patients so that others who may not have read it.

-- Morning blue light treatment improves sleep complaints, symptom severity, and retention of fear extinction memory in post-traumatic stress disorder:

I also saw this article that was a little concerning but it's talking about avoiding blue light at night.
-- Blue light has a dark side - What is blue light? The effect blue light has on your sleep and more.

From what I've read sunlight is the largest source of blue light. I have no experience with either device so hoping other members can join the discussion and offer suggestions.

Do you have trouble sleeping due to PTSD?

Thanks for the links, John! Yes, I have the PTSD, but no longer depression, bad dreams, etc. Only the body on high alert so it's difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep. So I'm always on the lookout for new sleep aid research. I'm wondering whether blue light is just a blue gel filter over a regular sun/light box, or something else. Appreciate your ideas!

I could be wrong but I think blue light would be directly from a sun light box/bulb and a blue filter may just filter out the blue light, sort of like eyeglasses with blue light filters.
