MAC in sinuses + lungs?
Hi everyone! I’m looking for anyone else who has been diagnosed with MAC (abscessus) in their sinuses as well as MAC (avium) in their lungs? Thanks, blessings to all, Brenda

No, but I certainly have a lot of sinus infections. Usually have to take a round of antibiotics? I asked my Infectious Disease Doctor today if we can get MAC in the sinuses and she said rarely.
When I had chronic sinus infections some years ago, the ENT had the nasal secretions cultured twice, and it never came back with MAC. Once it was a streptococcus, another time pseudomonas. Both took multiple courses of antibiotics, and I was never fully cured until I had sinus cavities and septum repairs.
Nasal cultures showed pseudomonas?
Yes please, if there is any information on this topic it would be much ap preciated. My Husband was in the hospital with kidney stones then got sepsis. He has since has pseudomonas in his urine samples and has been treated with intravenous meds for ten days, but continues to show pseudomonas. He also continues to have sinus problems. One comment showed that a person had cultures done on nasal secretions and it came back with pseudomonas. I am wondering if my husband has a full blown out case of pseudomonas throughout his body. Can that be?
Yes, they did. Weird things show up in sinuses - today my 45 yo nephew was positive for MRSA - has cellulitis in sinus, nose & face around eye. Remember, a congested sinus is a nice, warm, moist dark place for bacteria to congregate. If out defenses are down , they can grow and makes us sick.

Ok so this may sound strange nut has anybody had a smell in their nose? At first it was like a smoke smell constant in my nose for weeks then not for a week then back again. Recently the smell changed to like shoe polish. I have been to an ENT and Allergist. No clue. But now that I have this bronchiectasis, aspergillus and maybe MAC... Who knows?
My friend had Covid, she smell fire. Did you have Covid?
My thoughts are that if I have MAC in my lungs I probably have it in my sinuses. ( Even though I 've never had my sinuses swabbed to see if MAC is growing there)
I'm currently diagnosed with MAC but not doing any treatment with medications due to side effects in 2019 MAC. My sister who gets frequent sinus infections and bronchitis uses sinus rinses and flonase. ( we both have allergies)she does not have MAC. She claims that a sinus rinse and the flonase really keep the sinus infections and bronchitis away.. since I"ve been using the sinus rinse ( Neti-pot) daily and flonase I believe I have kept the staph infection in my lungs at bay. My pulmonologist has said that post nasal drip will not cause staph,MAC, or pseudonomas. I don't see how this can be the case. I feel that is probably how I am getting these three bacteria in my lungs. ( MAC, and frequent staph and infrequent pseudonomas)
Any thoughts?
I am glad to read about sinus cavities an septum repair.
i have chronic thick post nasal drainage 24/7. I use saline and Netti Pot (average about 4 pot a day.
Also use Saline nasal spray daily. I buy 6 to 9 cans at the time. It never stops!! I can't use any of the nasal sprays that have been prescribed because of causing breathing to be more difficult.
I am going to see my ENT one more time and then may change ENTs.
Never had an image of the sinuses.
Yes! I have that. It’s so weird. Called Phantosmia.
