Anyone else experience Weight Gain with long COVID?
I have had ~30 pound weight gain since November 2020 when I initially had COVID. It seems disproportionate to my calorie intake. Any one else with this?

I’m am remembering the connection between the vaccine and changes in women’s menstrual cycles and am curious about the vaccine’s impact on metabolism. Could that be the cause of this weight gain?
Have you checked your thyroid? Not the TSH, but the whole works Perhaps look at ANA for Hashimotos. The Moderna Vaccine reactivated these symtomsin me. Hope this is the answer, because thyrod meds definitely help to lose with hypothyroid. All the best for finding answers and healing.
I had Covid in April 2022 and also picked up 13lbs (6kg) and it not dropping no matter what i'm trying. I've recently started cycling as well to see if it will help but with the burning chest pain and fatigue it is very difficult.
I never had any issues with my mid-section but now I have belly fat and back fat due to me being overweight. I'm following a healthy diet with at-least 2.2ltr water as my daily in take. Whether my weight gain is due to COVID or the injections im still puzzled. I will post some updates on my weight-loss journey.
All the best to the rest of you !!
I have been dealing with Covid Gut for nine months...bloat to the point of feeling all my organs are being squeezed. And yes, it has caused me to gain weight. It started two weeks after recovering from Covid. I have had all the tests imaginable and all were normal. The doctors believe I have long Covid and have no answers other than giving it time. By the way, supplements, enzymes and prescription drugs have made no difference.
thanks for the reply, i did have my thyroid completely checked and it's good. this all happened after getting covid in dec of 2019, way before getting a vaccine, i've been to mayo clinic and we have been working on it, i have more than one symptom, and so hoping to have an end to all of it. i have never in my life experienced anything like this..
I have gained weight. I had my Thyroid checked. It’s functioning normally.
Personally, I think my weight gain is caused by having to be sedentary. I caught Covid in Jan and am still battling with King Covid. That’s a long time not being able to do much.
Many docs don't do a full battery when differentaatng hypothyroid from Hashmto's thyroditis. Check the test fndings against an onlne search for differenttng tests for anti-thyroid antibodies. Two entrely dfferent illnesses. If t s Hasghis that was trggered by Covid, the usual tests may nop reveal same. Make sure, because you don't wat to miss thid diagnosis. Mine was missed for 20 years, whle I searched in vain for answers to multiple docs. Usually assocated with some food insensitivities. Hope you are right, but please exclude Hashimoto's. Also check out possible Epstein Barr virus activation as cause for ong Covivid. Thousands of sufferers are dealing with this complication. A resource is a research support group focessed on EBV sufferer, many of whom are long Covd people whe have developed a series of protocols that help with symptoms, sharing wth each other the protocols, and with excellent support and empathy. Name of group, Stuff that Heals. Most group members experenced symptoms after Covid or consequent to one of the COVID vaccines. I hope ou find healing and renewed energy soon. All the best.
Hi- I have experienced similar symptoms. I gained 10lbs (I was 100lbs, so this is 10% of my body weight and huge on my 5 foot frame.
None of my doctors can figure out what is wrong. Symptoms present as hypothyroidism, but when they check my TSH is low, as is my T3 and T4.
If anyone has ideas of what to look into, please share. Thank you!
Just joined. Quick intro:
+ COVID end Dec 2021 / early Jan 2022. Age 50 at the time.
+ Steady weight (medium-to-slim) past 15+ years.
+ Had total loss of sense of sense of smell, which has not fully recovered (it fluctuates, some days better than others, never back to original). Suspect this led to some increase in calorie intake, but I controlled once I noticed.
+ Since February 2022 have gained 20+ lbs to 10lbs higher than my lifetime high. Climbing steadily. Very visually apparent gain.
I test blood sugar regularly. Typically under 90 mornings after night/fast.
Thought gut flora could be a factor. Started quality probiotics with no apparent results. Will add prebiotics (can't hurt).
I look forward to reading all of the conversations here.
Best,
Shan
I have experienced constant weight gain +73 lbs, headaches, joint pain, sleep issues, at times I can't seem to catch my breath and I have overall fatigue since covid. I feel like I can't get control of my overall health and well-being. I was walking about 6 miles a day until Covid (on oxygen for 2 months) I walk a tenth of a mile and I sound like I ran a marathon! If I can't get control I will end up with other debilitating health issues and I am only 49 and not ready to give up yet.
