Hello @pakerbs and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. It sounds as though it has bit of a rough transition. I am sorry!

What side effects besides constipation did you experience after the first day?

Has it helped at all? I started it a week ago and have lots of dude effects but it has not clear my intestines. Lots of horrid gas nausea and very bloated. I am healthy except for my intestines. I had a part removed for diverticulosis about 5 years ago . Not sure what to do next as I have horrid diarrhea from this medication too!

Yes, Motegrity has helped me but I had to play around with the dosage. I started with a 1/4 of a 2mg tablet then went up to 1/2 a tablet at bedtime. It seems to work with less side effects at lower a dose.

Is it ok to cut them? The issue I will soon be running into is that I will be going on Medicare at the end of the year. Since it is relatively new, it is not on the formulary and will cost me a fortune, so I’m trying to find cheaper things that will work as well.

I tried Motegrity 2 times…both times I got such a weird BAD headache…it felt like the back of my head was gonna explode…needless to say, I never took it again. At that time,it was still in trial, I called & reported my issue.

I’m also new to Motegrity. I also take Amitiza- fairly new to that too.
I’m still experimenting with how often I take it.
I take Amitiza twice a day- except when I have a relapse of what I assume is my autoimmune colitis.
Motegrity work most of the time, but I ration it.
I’m also on Medicare- $200 a month. On Medicare one doesn’t qualify for the manufacturer’s discount coupons.

Yes, you can cut Motegrity.
I have Medicare and with a Prior Auth got it approved, but I did have to try several others first.

I tried Motegrity. It made me so sick I stopped it.
The mixture of applesauce, oat bran and prune juice along with a small amount of saline version of Milk of Mag has worked so much better.
I am still trying to get into a Clinical trials endoscopy procedure for my Gastroparesis.
I just stay on my diet until I can something better done!

I take Motegrity for my SIBO, I am also constipated.
It is my understanding that you need to give it a two week break every 3 months ( your body gets use to it)
Have you tried Magnesium citrate or glycinate?
