I feel like Physical Therapy is making small fiber neuropathy worse

Posted by laura @lauraj155, Apr 15, 2019

Hello everyone, I have been doing PT for the past three weeks for SFN. I don’t have numbness just tons of pain in both feet. I have been given stretching exercises to help with the pain and flexibility. The therapist wants me to do these exercises three to four times a day, 15 reps each and also increase my walking. My pain level has gone up significantly and I feel very frustrated because nerve pain seems to have a mind of its own. I am getting more searing pain on top of feet and more fasciculations. I feel as if I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t move enough as well. I am asking the group if anyone has gone down this same road with PT. I really hate to stop it completely but sometimes I feel like I just have to listen to what the pain is telling me. Thanks for any advice.

Has anyone stopped taking their statin drugs to see if their Neuropathy improves. Some Drs. think that statins can cause N in some people.

I would not stop taking statin medication without talking to your doctor. There is another discussion on the topic you may want to read through.

My pharmacist told me you have to stop when taking antibiotics. No weaning time. Felt better when I stopped taking statins. They are neurotoxic, made my neuropathy 10x worse.

I can relate. I noticed it when I started the rowing machine, so I thought maybe it was the motions I was making.
I haven't read the entire thread, but I noticed people talk about statins. Everything got worse when I started Lipitor, I was even telling people that it made it feel like I had Parkinson's. I did quit before I started therapy, and like I mentioned the rowing machine. But I don't know if that was it. But I can assure you that statins are neurotoxic medications, I was diagnosed with hereditary neuropathy and small fiber. My hereditary disease actually has a full list of neurotoxic medications, and I know there are more. And Lipitor made the list.
Now its gotten so bad every time I stand my legs start shaking, showers are the worst. I can't even lay on my left side it's so inflamed. And the fasciculations that started in my lower limbs are now widespread. I hate to lose strength in my limbs, but exercise kills me,I get so tired so quickly, and I was very physically active before the neuropathy.
I still believe there is an underlying condition they are missing and not treating. Everyone experiences neuropathy in different degrees and with different causes, so I believe exercise can make it worse, as well as lack of restful sleep.
