Stage 3a kidney disease: looking for info
I just learned today I have stage3a kidney disease. All my doctor told me was that my kidneys showed dehydration. I am clueless and I remembered I used to come here often. So right now I am just looking for basic info. Thank you. I recall this being a very helpful forum.

Good idea, I look forward to reading your comments.
I have come to the conclusion that doctors do not care to even tell the patient they have CKD. They are just in it for the money. The only help I got was on the computer.
@sammyloue I am not so sure it is because they don't care, so much as the kidney and how they relate to our body's very function is a highly specialized area. From my experience, I feel like I know more than my general doctor about kidneys and kidney function, but way less than my nephrologist. Because the kidneys impact many systems, a generalist simply doesn't have the education to address it all, and will hopefully refer to a nephrologist.
Be wary of the computer searches. "Dr. Google" can lead you down a rabbit hole, definitely! Trusted websites like Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, National Kidney Foundation, etc. offer sound information.
How are you doing today, any questions I can answer for you?

Seem to be doing okay. Probably won't have a CKD test until first of the new year. Have had stage 3 for over 20 years. Mostly drink water. Stay away from some foods.
Bill ended up in the hospital and now skilled NH for therapy. His blood pressure dropped to 73/38 53 heart rate. This past week even got into 60s/40s so the put him on Midodrine to help bring it up (yesterday morning was 128/81.
He still isn't eating much - at hospital and NH only eating fruit and maybe some cottage cheese.
They are redoing some of his meds (took him off high BP med) so are monitoring him like crazy. Also doing therapy to help with falling issues.
He tried walking out of the NH last Friday - doesn't feel he needs any help. So not true!
I was Diagnosed CKD stage 4a in May. My best help with nutrition came from an associate at Fesenius Dialysis Center in FL. They spoke with me & gave me a booklet on nutrition that has helped me to know much more. Many people have CKD but just don't know it yet. Have your kidney functions labs done sooner rather than later!!
Everyone, please pass this along: I have had to stop ordering groceries online for home delivery from Hy-Vee now that the company requires the homebound online customer to have a printer, paper and ink to print out his/her own receipt. This is after nonavailability of many foods the past few months which other stores are able to obtain and the increasing difficulty customers have in using the website. Website will show a product but when the customer tries to get it from the customer's local store it's not available after all.
@kamama94 we started using HyVee aisles online at the start of the COVID pandemic to order groceries. We have had them delivered but mostly just mask up and pick them up ourselves. We also use the HyVee pharmacy for prescriptions so we have to venture out anyway to pick those up. Never considered if pharmacy delivery was an option? We have experienced the same problems as you with the Website search, the so called substitutions, and getting receipts. My husband is a computer geek and I am so thankful for him. We do have computer, printer, ink and paper but he usually just refers to the online receipt if we have any issues with the order (which is often). Our last order was missing over half the items and there was no effort made by the shopper to substitute something else. This was for really basic stuff like bread! (Trying to follow dietary needs for diabetes and CKD make it even more difficult!!)
@cehunt57, so it's not just me. I think corporate is deliberately trying to have the local store fail so they can close it. I don't know where you are but in my town Walmart delivers and still sends paper receipts which I am required to present in order to get certain discounts. Sorry you're having trouble also.
@kamama94 I am in the Twin Cities, MN metro area. Our local HyVee is much closer than the Walmarts. There is also a small mom & pop grocery close by that I go to when HyVee aisles online fails me. It is never crowded, people are masked and they know their customers personally. It is a blessing!
