Questions about AFib and exercise

Posted by soph @soph, Jul 5, 2019

I've been told light-moderate exercise is good for a-fib. I also just had 3 afib attacks, all after an exercise class--but only one attack a week and I go 3 times to exercise. I love my exercise class, hope not to stop it. All night attacks, beginning after dinner. 85 years. I have a great life and would like to live longer. What's best??

@neetneet

Are the watches good to monitor Afib.

I have worn an Apple Watch for the past 5 years. 4 yrs ago, it alerted me to a highly variable heart rate, so I saw a cardiologist, underwent a stress test and passed it OK. Fast forward to Thanksgiving 2021, my watch alerted me to possible AFIB 3 nights in a row. I couldn’t get an appointment with the cardio Dr until January ‘22. AFIB confirmed in Feb and medication started (Eliquis & Metoprolol). I monitor my status daily using my watch, and it is very consistent in telling me I’m in AFIB when I can feel the palpitations. So, I believe the readings are accurate.

I recently had a 30 day holter-type monitor from the Mayo and found, among other things, that I am in AFIB much more than I thought I was. Also I have noticed that one of the triggers for my AFIB are my daily workouts, which is troubling since I consider them important but my team has advised me to continue them after doing a follow-up stress test and echo. I have the new Samsung Watch 4 which will do a 30 second rhythm strip to detect AFIB and Sinus Rhythm only. After reading "The AFIB Cure" by John Day MD I have decided I want an ablation which I will discuss with my EP at my next appointment.

I recommend it! Ablation stopped my AFib so far. It's been 5 months and I exercise regularly. Good luck!
