Every day I cough up what looks like a scab with ugly mucous and blood
Every day I cough up what looks like a scab with ugly mucous and tiny amounts of blood. It seems to come from the back of my throat or nose. My doctor has seen the scab but does not see anything wrong. This, to me, seems really odd. Has anyone had this problem?

Does anyone have a deviated septum that may be causing this problem? Seems to be what my ENTs have come up with. They really don’t know what the cause is, but feel as tho fixing the septum will hep matters. I can’t help but wonder if these scab-like-things are lodging there. Also, before it dislodges…is it very painful for anyone else??
Hey everyone, It's been a bit since I updated. So since I had my adenoid surgery I have been doing the nasal rinses twice a day. I was convinced at first that the surgery had made it worse but what I have discovered is there is thick clear mucus draining from somewhere that was (without the nasal rinses twice a day) drying and creating the scab. I do not have the scab now with doing these rinses I do have a horrible almost 24/7 thick clear mucus drainage tho that does get stuck around the area that the scab was forming (around the adenoid area) and I have to hack it up bit it isn't as painful as the scab. Still irritating for sure and the anxiety is for sure still present. I had mentioned in my last post that my ENT did find a very small hole near my adenoids (We had never seen it there prior to the surgery) we aren't sure if it was caused during surgery or what. I'm going to make another appointment with my ENT to discuss where this thick clear mucus could be coming from. He had suggested over the phone that it could be from this small hole and he could do a procedure in the office that they use on nose bleeds to attempt to close the hole. Im skeptical of allowing them to mess with it at this point, but I will keep everyone updated. Has anyone that is using the nasal rinses daily noticed that you aren't producing this scab but you do have thick clear mucus getting stuck around that same area that you are hacking up?
I get those also, I had a CT scan and the ENT told me it was a cyst, that was 5 years ago. I cough up a scab a few times a week and some times it makes my voice horse. I don’t know what to do, hopefully it doesn’t turn into throat cancer.
Please update us in the use of the Mometasone +Mupirocin. I hope it is still working for you. Have you been told if you will need to use it forever or just until you are cured?
We have dogs and so I got tested for allergies and nothing was definitive, came back borderline. So maybe it’s dog dander and maybe it’s not? I took a week away and I did seem better…
Made an account here just to see if you found any clues, I also have been dealing with exact same with photos to share. Lol. It’s frustrating finding zero answers online.
Hi @wannaknow2, Welcome to Connect. @vita61 shared what helped her in a post earlier in the discussion here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/722883/
Have you seen an ENT specialist or thought about seeking help at a major teaching hospital or health facility?

This is wild. Exactly the same problem here. This started for me after I had been vaping for a couple years. This (paired with trouble breathing while on my left side) made me quit. Not long after, the breathing and scabby mucus cap issues went from being daily events to nearly nonexistent. Now, the mucus cap only resurfaces about once a month. But it’s still alarming…the unknown. I just want to know what it’s forming over to create such a specific shape. It’s infuriating that so many people have hit so many brick walls trying to get a diagnosis. Either way, Thanks for sharing! Every account brings us closer to figuring this thing out.
