Recurrent urinary tract infections (UTI)
I have had four uti’s in the last eight months. Of those eight, I had three in three months. I’m wondering if I should see a specialist. I like my primary care provider but he is very busy. Also, if you know of anything I can be doing until my next appointment with my primary care provider, which is three months away.

I have a history of kidney stones and my urologist said to eat an orange everyday or drink a glass of lemonade. Lemonade, an orange & lemon water are excellent to help prevent UTIs along with lots of water to flush out the bacteria.

I have had 5 UTIs in 8 months. I'm so scared something is very wrong. What is happening? 73 years old.
Hi @katybear 😊
Do you actually have symptoms with your "UTI"s or are you counting a positive routine urine analysis as an "infection"?
As women age, their anatomy automatcally contaminates every urine analysis. The rule tends to be to treat only if there are actual symptoms of a UTI like burning. Otherwise, you will always be taking antibiotics for or an "infection" that is not really an infection. What has been your experience?
Urgency, cloudy with some bubbles.
I have had 1 UTI for 8 months. 9 antibiotics and I still have it.
Have you tried Hiprex (methenamine) to reduce bacterial load? Hiprex is an anti-infective not an antibiotic that you take along with Vitamin C. It's a very old drug that works really well and causes no antibiotic resistance which is extremely important.
Hi @katybear, I'd like to add my welcome. Recurring UTIs are troubling and not uncommon. You'll notice that I moved your question to this existing discussion that @mpeters started and got loads of helpful comments. Click the link the see all the previous posts,

Thank you!
I have had a UTI since May ( this is first September). I would get some better and relapse. The urine was cultured each time. The results were different strains - all serious. I had 3 rounds of antibiotics for 5 day each. Then had a 10 day round. I am finally over the serious infection but still going to take another week for this last irritation.
I am 75 and have not had a kidney/bladder infection in 8 years at least. I have never had an infection that did not clear up with one round of antibiotics. This is a real mystery to me as to why this has suddenly happened.
Also this time my GFR was 53 and i have NEVER had any issues with GFR.
I wonder if it is my age of 75? Does anyone else have similar stories ?
Hi @katybear 😊
Has all 5 UTI cultures come back with the same infection name? Were you on the same medication all 5 times?
(I think you definitely want to see a specialist once a problem becomes chronic).
Urgency and cloudy sounds like another UTI.
A specialist can help answer the question of what is causing these repeat infections.
The "bubbles" can be some protein or red blood cells in your urine.
In addition to seeing a urologist, have you had full labs done recently on your blood and urine to make sure your kidneys are functioning well, your WBC is in the normal range, etc?
