Neuropathy Pain at Night: What helps?
THC or marijuana for me relieves pain from neuropathy. It works every time takes a few minutes and a few puffs of smoke and it comes it down for some crazy reason that makes this drug so popular.

I found over the last few weeks that taking one gabapentin together with my duloxitine in the mid morning helps me get through the day. But by early evening the legs are just not good again.
It helped me when prescribed by a podiatrist. The problem for me was the price, as insurance would not cover. Wish I could afford to take it. It did seem to lessen the painful symptoms and had no side effects for me.
@artist01 Recliners can be really helpful when you can't sleep in a regular bed. We finally broke down a couple of years ago and bought an adjustable bed and I have the head slightly elevated all the time.
Hi Mugs,
I am a long time victim/complainer/seeker of some kind of foot pain relief. The best is CBD/THC cream. I use it morning and night...once in a while during the day as well. I am in PA and get mine through a Dispensary. Not cheap, but works the best yet. I will be using it on my hands as the weather changes. Yes, I agree with you that arthritis is mixed in with the PN. Sometimes it is hard to determine what's what!! I would love the see the final results of the study at Mayo! Hats off to you for going through that.
@johnbishop
I agree, John. Those adjustable beds are the answer for many. I bought a very expensive one several years ago but it didn't work well for my problem so I finally bought the Lay-Z-Boy recliner, with it's several optional positions. Love it!
I finally got my medical Canibas Licence. Definitely helps you sleep at night. I recommend vapes so you don’t have the smell to deal with.
I will keep this short and sweet the ONLY thing that helps me at night and during the day for that matter is good old oxycodone!! Unfortunately when I moved to Georgia from Arizona 5 years ago I lost my Dr. for 20 years. When I got to this godforsaken state. I found out quick that every PCP in Georgia was afraid of prescribing any thing that was a NARCOTIC. So everybody is has to find a “pain specialist”. I’ve been on the same dose for 3 years, I guess they never heard of or understand the meaning of tolerance!! I get 10% of what I received in Arizona. To bad the CDC and the FDA stuck there nose in where it didn’t belong. They already admitted they were wrong on trying to limit opioid prescriptions, but nothing is being done. I’m 67 I don’t want to live like this in pain morning to night. So if you find a good Dr. good luck. If I sound bitter that’s because I am!!
You mention you’ll use it as weather changes - is this because hands get drier, or does it help with “cold” hand feelings?
Thanks @mugs24cancer , I too am interested in the research results. I try to put things in perspective and not have pity parties, but I almost cried when I could not get pierced earrings on for a special wedding this summer. I tried for 20 minutes before giving up; my husband is a dear, but he is squeamish on doing earrings, so I didn’t push. I had anticipated the hardship in advance, and the day before had gone to a large well-known store thinking they’d have one pair of clip-in’s I could buy. They had ZERO, so I was out of luck. I asked the clerk if there were any to be found. I’m guessing she was about 45 years old. She said she had no idea where anyone could find clip-ons, that her grandmother was “old-fashioned too” and she couldn’t find them anywhere. I am 57, so I felt like I got kicked while already down.
Oh well, my fault for shopping the day before and not planning ahead so I could have bought online in advance, but I love the thought of this cream helping to do life necessities like buttons, shoestrings, and snaps, plus a little pampering activities like putting on eye makeup without stabbing my eye and indulging in jewelry 😊. Keep us posted on results!
Try THC gummy’s at night. Also Kratom helped me a ton when my poor Dr stopped my fentanyl cold Turkey after 5 year on it. Same reason you had. One of my doctors recommended Kratom for pain. Now that I’ve tried it, I will never be off it because more of the time you won’t need narcotics. Give it a try.
A very knowledgeable Pharmacist recommended Hydromorphone Compound cream many years ago. I put a little on my wrists, yes the wrists, and I don't have the awful neuropathy pain as soon as I went to bed. He explained that we have dermatomes for different areas of our body so there is where the compound is placed. He also made a combination for my L5-L4 pain that took it away. I had to rub it into the area where you would receive a shot in the backside. Didn't believe it at first but after one good recommendation I believed him on a second. Thankfully my providers over the years agreed to continue them. Compounding pharmacies are different from the regular ones as they concentrate on just compounds. At first mine did both but when it caught on they went to compound only.
