Anyone had a Botox injection in Bladder for an overactive bladder?

Posted by gcranor @gcranor, Aug 26, 2022

Has anyone had an injection of Botox in the bladder to reduce the number of times you pee a day? I use 6 to 10 catheters a day and barely can pee without using a catheter.

@gcranor, I modified the title of this discussion to match your question. I believe fellow members @jaredycahill @ronnieanderson @douglsrson @doncampbell and @beloved1 have experience with botox injections for bladder control.

While we wait for others to share their experiences, I thought you might appreciate this article from Mayo Clinic Health System's blog:

I'm really glad you're asking about this. Unfortunately, too many people wait too long to talk to their health care team about urge incontinence or overactive bladder.

Thank you for helping me understand this embarrassing issue!

I am going to get a Botox injection in my bladder next month to reduce the number of times I need to use a catheter; my question is what is the normal (mead) times a male at 65 goes pee per day (including nighttime)?

I get up on average two times a night. It varies of course on the liquid consumed during the prior evening. Have you considered cutting back on drinking fluids after 6:00 PM? Also….are you under the care of a Urologist? If you still have all or most of your prostate….is it enlarged? My prostate was growing up and into my bladder…..not a good thing of course. I recently had HoLEP Surgery ( excellent procedure ) to remove 75% of my prostate and it took care of the prostate lobe that was extending into my bladder. You may have covered of on all of this before, but in the event you haven’t…..you might want to consider it!

Does anyone know what the risk are for using Botox to reduce the number of times I pee during a day?

What happens to the bladder if it is not empty (Botox reduces the number of times to empty the bladder)?

I have had 2 Botox and neither worked. Also taking 2 meds and neither worked. Had the surgery/sling, and no help. Has anyone had the implant in their back for this?

Hi, I had the implant and it didn’t help at all but I have MS and apparently it’s not as successful if you have neuro issues. A friend glad it done and had huge improvement in both frequency and leaking but after several months, the benefits are wearing off You definitely should read about it before having it done because a fairly high percentage of patients have complications.

I had the injection and mine didn't work. I'm at square one. I'm away from home right now so I can't see my doctor, I don't know what will be next

I use Premarin Cream 2Xs a week, it helps, but would Botox be something to try, is it painful to inject?
