Single: how to cope with your condition

Posted by EllAmster @ellamster, Aug 26, 2022

Hi all.
Many of you are happily living together and enjoy the support of loved ones, which must be terrific. But I wonder about the single ones. How are you dealing with what's going on?
Speaking for myself I tend to just continue even when I am sick because if I lose it, who's going to help with the cats, for instance 😺
How are you other singles going through things alone? Most of you will have friends and relatives, but how about the ones who are really just that: alone?

Yes, it really sucks living alone and being sick. It's very lonely and also when you have to depend on people to take you to doctor visits is very stressful. Just keep God in your day and pray.

Thanks 😊
The 'finding people to take me there' is very stressful, yes. I usually do things alone or on my own but sometimes this is not possible.

I know and I am sorry for us. I haven't been able to drive (other than to get my mail down the street) since June. My family is 50 minutes away and working, of course. I am having a surgery soon and have to depend on someone to take me to Philadelphia for that. Where do you live?

Not close to you, let me tell you 😊
It's tricky to ask for help, right? How will you go to hospital? Is there a volunteers group near you that helps in such occasions?

Yes, friends, neighbors have been gracious. My daughter and her family are my last resort as they are working. How about you?

Wonderful that you have help, and ans even family.
Well, you I just wing it, you really. I don't have family that can help. Or friends. Only occasional businesses relations and those are a no go area 😊

You can enjoy golf. The starter will pair you up with other golfers or you can wait on the first tee for players that will invite you to join them.

Living alone ( all 3 kids and families-out- of- state)….forces us to start/ maintain local connections and friendships…. Both for social stuff… and support if needed. Getting together for coffee or lunch is a social bonus. Being able to drive helps with that feeling of independence….. but local services may be available…. And there are cabs. Senior activities are worth investigating. ………hjtk

I understand the 'forces us to start / maintain local connections', yes. Social stuff and support. I find this difficult.
I wanted to learn how to drive but never mastered that craft, my life was too complicated. All my energy went into survival and not actually living and enjoying things. This is the reason why I find this such a difficult situation. On the outside I am happy and fun though!
