Low blood pressure

Posted by Karenatmayo @karenatmayo, Jul 26, 2018

I have low blood pressure and will see my primary care physician soon about it. (I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, ugh, last year and had whole brain radiation and now taking iBrance and letrozole. I also have afib, lucky me, and take metroprolol which I know course lowers blood pressure. I feel better after I eat a meal. I will have to see what primary care doctor says about low blood pressure. Wondering how anyone else deals with low blood pressure. I am 69.

I had two LOW_FLOW TIA's, all from doctors over medicating me with beta blockers. I'm on my fourth cardiologist now. He immediately took me off the beta blockers. Have been off the medication for 2 years now. I have recovered from most of the damage the beta blockers did. You need to be your own advocate. Research on the internet, there is plenty of research on low BP. Very low BP can be just as dangerous as high BP.

My husband is taking midodrine for low blood pressure. It has helped. Sometimes it is still on lower side but not as bad.

Bill was put on Midodrine over a month ago. It did bring his sitting BP up to a better range (111/67) but if taken when standing it is still low but not quite as bad.
However, after taking it he has started having severe diarrhea - lately not making the toilet. And he told me this morning he has been showing bloody stools for about 4 days. He has dementia and sometimes can get mixed up on things. Like one day he said he had been up 12 times to use the bathroom. The camera we have set up to monitor for falls only showed him up 2 times and I was only aware of him being up twice.
He also suffers from 'piles' but has only ever showed a little blood on the toilet paper - gone by next day.
So I'm suspecting the Midodrine might be causing it. He also has CKD Stage 3. Is 89.
Our family doctor is out of town and I have an appointment set up for Bill when he returns. It was the nursing home doctor that put him on the Midodrine (he was in the NH about 3 weeks - now getting a few weeks of HH care.)

Aah, Julia, another puzzle to solve. If the wait for your doctor is lengthy, perhaps HH can contact the staff doctor?

That is what I'm hoping as they did say he has a Home Health doctor.
He went to bed about 5:30 last night. Wouldn't eat and in a very growly mood.
Woke up in the middle of the night and he was at the edge of the bed coughing. Finally stopped and went back to sleep. Hope he is feeling better this morning. Fingers crossed.
