Epstein-Barr Treatment for Long Covid?

Posted by snakexeyes @snakexeyes, Jul 28, 2022

First, a little background: I'm 9 months in to Long Covid and just ended a treatment regimen designed by the InCellDx / Innovative Bioanalysis research group (Dr. Patterson et al). After 4 months of many medications that produced no results and only decreased my quality of life with side effects, I'm calling it. The only medication that improved my functioning was Ivermectin (which did so dramatically), but even that has plateaued for several months now. I'm now waiting until the end of October to be seen at Stanford's Post-Acute Covid Syndrome clinic and have little to no hope for that either.

The only explanation for my Long-Covid that has ever made sense to me is the theory that the virus re-activates latent Epstein-Barr in the blood. I had a very bad case of mono from age 15-17 that absolutely wrecked me, and some of my covid symptoms resemble my experience of mono, so this theory makes sense to me. For those of you who resonate with this theory and are seeking / have found treatment based on this assumption, what are you doing for treatment? Are you being prescribed medications, infusions, etc? I would be so grateful to hear about anything you may be doing or may have heard others are doing. Thank you!

I got Covid in Dec 2020 before vaccines were available. So my long Covid, 20 months now, I was not vaccinated yet. Since then,
I’ve had two Moderna shots and one booster.
Just got Covid again, cold symptoms, not bed ridden like the first time. But still have long Covid symptoms. At least the long Covid symptoms don’t seem worse which is a relief.

I have long covid ... I got sick in August 2021 and was sick for 4 months. Covid morphed into pneumonia and I was treated at home. I have neuropathy in my feet and a spot on my back , I lost 2/3 of my hair , fatigue and brain fog . The brain fog just seems to persist no matter what I try to do and the neuropathy is also very painful. I feel like I have icy hot on parts of my body. I'm on 2400 mg. of gabapentin per day and if I don't take it I can really tell a difference. My anxiety is also much worse than I originally had. I do believe that it triggered mild asthma which I hadn't had in the past. I'm just naming off things that have happened to me as I think of them. Who knows what tomorrow holds.

I have to agree with rsfccowgirl. If you don't have a doctor who will begin a series of tests, go to the emergency room. It was there that I learned about Long Covid. I was kept for 3 days, a battery of tests were performed and I am now seeing a Pulmonologist and Cardiologist. Long Covid affects many, many organs.

I am experiencing that too. I’m having a sonogram of my heart on the 7th and I have to see my pulmonologist again. I had mild Covid for a week then a respite, and then it came back a week later with a lot of coughing, fever and fatigue. Now after finally testing negative I can barely get out of bed or do anything without having breathing problem and severe fatigue. Doctor says it just takes a long time to recover.

It does take time, and it's different for everyone, and different things work for some, but not others. There was a post here a while back about making a tea from coriander seeds. I looked it up and it can work for inflammation. So I use it--can't hurt. I buy mine at a bulk food store- very inexpensive. I have seen so many doctors, even been hospitalized, looking for the core of the illness. Results say I'm fine. My visit with a Functional Doctor, who is also a traditional doctor, has given me the only results so far. Fatigue is almost gone, as well as the breathlessness. I hope you can find help. I know your feelings, we have all on this forum been there.

I've been following here for a long time given the symptoms that are shared. I can not directly relate it to long covid given I have a mild bout in March 2020, but shortly after having the vaccine in 3-2021, I started experiencing very similar symptoms to post covid sufferers. including mild asthma symptoms which I had as a child, along with TMJ, and other inexplicable symptoms which have transitioned into paresthesia type issues long with pressure headaches which are not really relieved with tylenol. Test results do not reveal a diagnosis that explains these things, but will ask
doc abut gabapentin

Please describe what has helped your fatigue and breathlessness. I have both have not been successfully treated for either. Thank you.

Although we are not feeling well, there is a positive side. I understand the major organs that covid affects are the heart, brain and lungs. Since a rehospitalization in February I have undergone multiple blood tests, Ct scans, ultrasound-looking for embolism, heart catherization looking at both sides of my heart, EGK's and probably some I have forgotten, It's good to know that all is in order . Your doctor is right. You must rest, rest, rest. I couldn't walk across a room without becoming breathless. I still have issues with perspiration. However I have much more energy, don't take 2 hour naps after having slept for 9 or 10 hours. My situation is getting better, and I hope all those suffering with Long Covid can reach this point soon. I do recommend trying a true functional doctor who is also a traditional MD

I am seeing a functional medicine doctor. Although I have never had mono, I am being treated as they would for Epstein Barr. The supplements have erased my fatigue and breathlessness. My other issues are improving.
I suppose you can say I had a serious case. The admitting doctor at the emergency room gave me little hope of surviving because I also had pneumonia. I couldn't believe he said that to me. I was hospitalized for three weeks, back in Oct. and again in February, where the only reason for my illness then was that I had Long Covid.
If you choose to see a functional medicine doctor, be sure he is also a MD and not someone in the medical field who is practcing this modality as a supplement to their business. I went that route some years back and he gave everyone the same supplements etc. He was not an MD. Good Luck to everyone.

This is so interesting! I also had mono at a young age & it makes sense to me that covid reactivated the virus.

What symptoms did the Ivermectin work for?

I am taking Nortryptilene for headache that has lasted a year. We are working with different dosages & naproxen. These are the only medications that have worked for me.
