Swollen Lymph Node (Neck) as a Result of Covid Virus

Posted by subvet @subvet, Aug 14, 2022

Hello, I had a mild case of covid-19 in May. The lymph node in my neck swelled and hasn't yet reduced in size. I rarely if ever have had swollen lymph nodes. My PC gave me an antibiotic which did not help. Has anyone else experienced this?

Welcome @subvet. I added your question to the Post-COVID Recovery & COVID-19 support group as well as the ENT group as I think others may chime in.

My neck lymph node is often my warning sign when I get an infection like a cold (not Covid), and it can take a while to go down even after I feel better.

I found this related article online:

Is your doctor concerned about the lymph node? Is it only on one side?

Hello Colleen,
Thank you for your reply.
The swollen lymph node is only on the left side. When I informed the doctor the antibiotic had no effect, he ordered a CT scan and referred me to an ENT. After review of the CT scan, the ENT ordered a biopsy of the node. I believe the focus here was to look for any cancer. No cancer was detected. The ENT wants to do surgery to look for and evaluate a possibly cyst. I'm not going to do this at this point. The ENT seems to want to go down traditional paths and there's not much focus on the fact the swollen node appeared during a Covid-19 infection.

I have a walnut size swollen thing near Adams apple, two doctors say, there is a syst near by which is filled with fluid, put me on antibiotic and neproxcin , not working and waiting to see ENT.It came on ten days ago.

I just came back from ENT, only solution to this swollen walnut size at throat is surgery to remove the cyst, she is referring me to a throat and neck surgeon .Has any one had this surgery? Any opinion is important .

Hi, I had 2 swollen lymph nodes for approx. 6 weeks and decided to see my PC doc. She referred me to ENT who
wanted to biopsy immediately. It said yes and found out it was a cancer. I highly suggest that getting a biopsy
will give you definitive results. After that, you can decide the next step of treatment/removal etc. I wish you
a speedy recovery.

Thank you. I had the biopsy, and they found no cancer, thankfully.

that is awesome to hear! But if ever they find cancer I do recommend you do your homework on what doctor you want. My husbands ENT threw us to his partner and I wish I would have did my own searching. Just sayen.

Realizing this is an older post but I’m also looking for info on post-Covid lymph node issues. I am only 3 weeks post Covid and testing negative but still have very swollen lymph nodes and some other symptoms. How long did this last for others? Thanks!

I am 4 weeks out. Alternating swollen neck nodes. Tender golf ball all the way up to the ear. I assume the white cells are still fighting the virus.

Yes, 4 weeks post testing positive and still have swollen neck nodes.
