Continued Post-Nasal Drip and Constant Mucus in Throat

Posted by adominic @adominic, Mar 22, 2022

I was sick the last week or January/first week of February. Home Test-negative, rapid PCR-negative. All COVID symptoms and known prolonged exposure to infected individuals make me believe it was COVID. Since then, I have had a tremendously hard time dealing with post-nasal drip and mucus collecting in my throat. It is clear, sticky and almost impossible to remove from throat by coughing or clearing my throat. Flonase does nothing, allergy pills do nothing. Had anyone else had an issue like this post COVID? How long did it last? What did you do to cope? Small problem in comparison to others that post here, I realize.

@luca79

has anyone of us with post nasal drip, turbinates hypertrophy?

I was reading that turbinates hypertrophy may cause post nasal drip.
My ent told me I have a light turbinates hypertrophy, but he says this has nothing to do with pnd.
and you?

I was bothered by post nasal drip. My allergist ordered Ipratroprium, which works really well. It’s a nose spray you take when you need it.

thanks, my ent doctor gave me that too... but no results... I still think we may need a surgery to reduce the turbinate...

Turbinates come back/grow back,. Please ask your ent whats the probability. Mine were reduced, but due to constant allergens, they are back to where they were

I have had this for the past three months, and like others, most things don't work.

I've had some relief from Ayr nasal spray, but only if I lay with my head upside for several minutes after using.

I also seem to be triggered by everything—sweet or processed foods, fried foods, soda, alcohol, changes in weather, etc etc.

If I drink a lot of water throughout the day, do the salt sprays, boost circulation and eat cleaner, it's more manageable.

Lemon, ginger, green tea helps too

Update...I just shined a light into my nose and my septum is completely perforated. I had no issues pre-covid and this is definitely contributing to my symptoms. I'm freaked out 😩

I have had constant phlegm in my throat for the last 15 years. I had much testing done and tried many products. The only thing that helps is to chew small bits of gum all day long. Drinking water or any kind of fluid also helps. I am just living with it.

Here it is May and still having issues with post nasal drip. Anyone have any thoughts on if this will go away? Allergy pills don’t work, Flonase doesn’t work. Doc still seems to think it’s due to COVID

Have you found any relief yet??I caught Covid in July, and one of my symptoms was extreme amounts of thick, postnasal drip, which I am still struggling to clear! I have tried Sudafed, Mucinex, different nasal sprays (Afrin, Flonase, Saline), oral antihistamines, the netipot, and zpack(in case there was a secondary bacterial infection) but nothing has worked! I even tried Pepcid as acid reflux can sometimes cause postnasal, but that didn’t work either. I just saw an ENT doc who diagnosed me with “rhinitis,” and recommended Sinus rinses (with the bottle, not the netipot), and Azelastine nasal spray (an antihistamine spray) twice a day for three weeks to see if that helps. If that does not work, he wants to send me to an allergist for allergy testing. However, I do not think this is due to allergies as this all started w Covid!

I have never been diagnosed with Covid but received 2 doses of covid vaccine in April/May 21. Since that time it seems I have had this same chronic feeling of pflegm in the throat and constantly swallowing and never goes away. I am wondering if others that have had the vaccine and have also experienced this problem. Now 18 months later I am still struggling with these same symptoms.

Can I ask why you say to use the bottle and not the netipot for nasal rinses?
