@visakimbell

Hey, my name is Visa. My issues started with breast cancer in 2007. Chemo, lumpectomy, and radiation started unbearable and painful nerve damage in my arm and breast area. 3 years on pains meds for pain they told me I shouldn't have..REALLY!!! Two spinal cord stimulators...removed due to hardward failure. Now, I have a Stimwave implant that is shocking me. Each "fix" has created a new issue.... It is never "their" fault!!!!! I am so sick of hearing such crap from uncaring doctors.

@visakimbell Hello, Visa, and welcome to Connect. My apologies for the delayed response. I am so sorry to hear of your nerve damage after surviving breast cancer. Congratulations on being a survivor and beating cancer! 💪

The difficult thing with implants and injections is that they intrude the body and aggravate tissues and nerves, hence stirring up symptoms and potentially creating more. It can be a vicious cycle, trying to manage pain and it sure sounds like you gave it a good shot.

What is next for you and pain management? How are you currently self-managing your arm pain? Have you ever considered a pain management program like the Mayo Clinic offers?

Hi Rachel,
I am using heat and 650mg of Tylenol. I can't take NSAIDS as I have AFIB. I have a script for PT but will wait until I see my next doc who is a neuro-spine surgeon. I see him 8/15. So far, I have seen 1 knee orthopedic, 2 hip orthopedics, 1 who does both hips and knees. The last one was the only one who mentioned my spine as a cause of my pain. I fell 1 year ago and landed on my knee (I thought) and got a really bad concussion. The hospital focused on my brain and my knee. But I probably did something to my back as the pain has just gotten worse. I hope my spine doc can help me out as I am headed for a wheelchair. I have to use a scooter when food shopping.
Thanks for reading this, Joan

@jmb73 It's my pleasure to read your post, Jane. That's what Connect is here for, to listen, support, encourage and share positive experiences to help others. It's difficult to face multiple chronic issues. I'm glad you have an upcoming appointment August 15th with your neuro-spine surgeon and can establish priorities. Your fall could have very well had repercussions on your back.

Keep moving as best you can despite symptoms. Physical therapy is great for teaching how to safely move and provide home exercises. There is so much you can do to keep active, even from sitting in a chair or while you are laying in bed. For now using a scooter may the best way for you to shop which is okay...hey, at least you're getting out of the house, right? But, keep the faith and think positive that you'll do the best you can to not be in a wheelchair.

Good luck at your appointment. Will you keep us updated on how it goes?

Hello Joan, @jmb73 just checking in to see how your appointment went with the neuro-spine surgeon on the 15th? I hope well. Is there a pain management plan? Can you begin PT yet?

Hello @paulieoneill4979, Welcome to Connect. There are several other discussions on complex regional pain syndrome that you might want to read through and meet other members who have shared their experiences.

Did your doctor suggest any treatments that might help?

Anyone here dealing with daily persistent headaches with possible spinal CSF leaks?

REPLY

I suffer from chronic, almost daily migraine, as well as gi issues that cause severe abdominal along with other symptoms. Other health issues, too.

Yes! I am! Just had another MRI. Brain seems to be lowering into the top of my spinal cord. Chronic daily headaches are fatiguing me...ugh. Neurologist wants to do lumbar puncture to check for CSF leak, but I'm not sure I want to go thru that. Lin
