I am experiencing profuse sweating off during the day and nightly. Is this common post Covid?

I also have been perspiring profusely. I perspire even if I am just sitting, and if there is any exertion, I am then soaking wet. My hands also tremble. I have just started with herbs. Since there is nothing known to cure this from covid, I am being treated for viral infections such as Epstein Barr. It takes a while as its three weeks on one, then another three weeks on another, blood test and finally three weeks on another. I will update. This is thru a functional medicine doctor who is also a regular MD--not someone who is adding this to his current practice--whatever that may be.

Hi I have similar Long Covid issues— been going on for 15 months. WU: what is a “functional medicine doctor”?
Thanks

my son and I experience night sweats post Covid. Neither of us had a fever even on the worst day of symptoms. But we had night sweats with bouts of chills. The chills went away, but the night sweats continue off and on.

Usually they use herbs, but if they are also a traditional doctor they can prescribe meds such as an antibiotic if necessary. They look for the cause of the illness and work to eliminate the illness. They don’t just treat symptoms

Hi @dr4bama - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.

Sweating does seem to be a pretty common side effect of COVID-19, unfortunately. I know it can get very uncomfortable throughout the day!
Others have discussed ongoing fevers with sweating as a side effect on this discussion post, you may find it helpful to read through:
- Fevers weeks after COVID: Is this common with long COVID? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/fevers-weeks-after-covid/

Have you continued to have a fever at all in your recovery? Have any other symptoms continued?

Profuse sweating - I haven't found it listed as a side effect anywhere. Do I have bouts of profuse sweating because I have/had a fever? My temp usually runs around 97.6.

My daughter has a severe case of Long Covid syndrome, and this is one of the side effects that has plagued her. Her LC Clinic calls it a disregulation issue - hypothalmus is not behaving properly, some people are always hot, others always cold...

I'm not sure what you mean by 'long covid'?

Functional Medicine doctors are MDs who try to find and heal the source of symptoms, not just treat the symptoms
They use conventional Western medicine, nutrition, herbs and eastern medicine. You can research functional medicine physicians near you. Other people do practice functional medicine that are not MDs ( nurses, etc) so you need to check that they are also an MD. They are not available everywhere.

It's been nearly 3 months since I had a fairly mild case of Covid. Since then, if I am in a setting with the least increase in temperature, I will start sweating profusely. No exertion required. I can be just sitting or standing outside talking to other "normal" people not sweating at all, & sweat will start just pouring down my face. Very aggravating. (I have also noticed worsening of my life-long tinnitus, plus some occasional balance issues when I turn quickly, but have no idea if they are related. )

I just want to say that I am currently relieved of the breathlessness, most of the fatigue, and the perspiring has cut down some. My hands still tremble and the night jolts continue, and the smell in my nose comes and goes. Sometimes I don't have it for days and then it comes back--its not so bad. Is it because of passing time, the regimen of supplements (herbs) I am on? It's amazing because there are only two per round. Each round is three weeks and I am into my second round. I have an appointment next week with the provider and look forward to the results of the "not so ordinary" bloodwork up.

I had somewhat of a severe case of Covid, in the hospital for three weeks. I never had a fever, but three months after hospitalization I was feeling so bad that I was back in the hospital. Test for Covid was negative, still no fever. Because Covid can affect so many of our organs I have been seeing a pulmonary doctor because of the breathlessness I had, a cardiologist, just checking things out, and a functional medicine doctor. The sweating is getting better as well, but I am on two antidepressants that control it.
