Iron Depletion in Blood related to COVID?

Has there been any reports of iron depletion in the blood after receiving the Pfizer vaccine?

My granddaughter received the J&J vaccine at age 17 for her job. She has since experienced low iron. She had a series of tests. But, nothing showed a cause. She was put on vitamin regiment for 6 months. Her latest labs show her iron to be lower than before. She recently received iron transfusions. They still cannot find a cause. She did not have this problem until after the vaccine. Coincidence?

I don’t think so….. had the same adverse effect but, luckily, 3 months on an iron supplement containing Vitamim C ( needed for absorption of iron) brought all my blood levels back up

It has been about 18 months since she received the vaccine. The doctors have been trying to resolve the problem for several months. She received the iron transfusions a couple weeks ago. Hopefully her next appointment will show normal levels.

She did several months of the same. Her levels actually were worse. She just finished a series of iron transfusions. Hopefully they work. She had lab work done this past Friday. She should get the results today or tomorrow.

Interesting article. Thank you. She hasn't experienced an increase in menstrual flow to my knowledge. Her Dr. initially thought she might have a small internal bleed. But they found nothing. It's a very curious thing.

I also have been tested for internal bleeding, endoscopy and colonoscopy, and thankfully they didn’t find anything. Hopefully the infusion helps her!

Yes. My husband has never had any history of anemia or low iron. He received the Pfizer vaccine in March. He began feeling more tired over the next two months. He saw his physician and she suspected some type of internal bleeding based on the blood test, He had an upper and lower endoscopy. No internal bleeding was found. They are going to try the camera endoscopy next week. We don't think this is going to reveal anything. His iron, ferritin and red blood cell count is extremely low. The only change in has been receiving the vaccine.

Thank you for sharing. I too am experiencing low Ferritin and Iron levels post Moderna Covid-19 vaccination. I am a 48 year old former trauma nurse for 9 years, now vascular access nurse for 17 years and have never had anemia, not even with my two full term pregnancies. My first Moderna dose was 8/24/2021. I experienced sever fatigue, heart palpitations and short of breath with minimal exertion. Multiple negative Covid-19 PCR test (I was PCR tested twice a week to be able to work). Second Moderna vaccine 9/21/2021. I experienced the same symptoms as the first dose. This time I had labs drawn. Iron level was 22 (low) with normal ferritin of 9, normal Hgb and Hct. Third Moderna dose 3/2/2022. Repeat labs 7/11/2022 Iron 15, Ferritin 4 Hgb 11.1 Hct 36.9 Severe Iron deficiency anemia. Colonoscopy, endoscopy and pelvic ultrasound scheduled for next week. Capsule endoscopy to follow if the previous exams are normal. I haven't had any abnormal menstrual cycles or GI symptoms. Just the severe fatigue and winded feeling with normal activities and talking. When I googled information on google scholar there are no studies or papers reporting this. Only that the vaccine is less likely to be effective if Iron levels are already low. This seems very coincidental. Hoping for truthful answers for all of us soon.

Have you tried iron with vitamin C supplements? My doctor also wanted to go the endoscopic route but I wanted to try the least invasive approach first. All blood levels were back to normal after 3-4 months of supplements and have remained stable. I am also a RN with a 30 year career.
I have not and will not get a booster.

It is unbelievable that they are making people go through money making testing Endoscopy, colonoscopy when they know it is the Moderna shot.
