What's your review of Cochlear Osia 2 System?

Hi! Yes, they should leave the higher parts of your hair intact and that section of hair should cover your wound as it heals. (That was my experience anyway.) I had the same concerns! 🙂

In this picture of my wound you can see that they only shaved the immediate area and I still had plenty of surrounding hair left (whew!).

Thank you for the encouraging words, trust me I needed them. I am a bit of a music nut and was very concerned about how my expensive stereo system would sound on the left side, a little over a year ago I had visions of having to part with it all, along with my bass guitar, but based on your feedback I may get the best of both worlds back.

I am amazed at how close they kept your incision to the ear, wonderfully done. They did mine right along the hair line, wonder if it was just bone structure that determined the exact location? Of course they have performed two prior surgeries right at the back of my ear too.

@thomashaus --How was your surgery? Has your device been activated yet?

Yes, surgery went well. A little discomfort for about two weeks but has improved over the weeks. It is still a little delicate where the left arm of my reading glasses sits!
The Osia 2 was programmed and attached on 07/13 as planned. Fitting went well although I had to have the audiologist tone it down three times as it seemed a little “hot” for my taste. I think they forgot that I have always been able to hear though the left ear canal, just at much lower levels, so it’s not like I have to teach my brain anything new [outside of hearing always looking to learn though :o) ]
For me personally I do feel there is something still missing, but am going to give it a little more time. Day two of wearing the device I forgot, four times that it was there, and sent it hurtling through the air. Fortunately it survived each time and I have since managed to keep it attached.
Have you had your Osia fitted and preprogrammed?

I got my Osia 2 in April 2021 just before I retired from the Navy...first one within the Dept of Defense, I believe. It has worked great but it seems every few weeks the area around the implant gets swollen and sore. Have you experienced anything like this? Due to an insurance technicality, I cannot go back to the surgeon and clinic who did the surgery and no one in the VA system has experience with this one yet.

I don't have the same brand as you do but I have AB Bionics. My audiologist changed out my magnet for one of less strength. I was not sore but the itching was driving me crazy. It's something to consider. It seems much less now although some days my scalp does itch. Something to consider.

It's a shame the VA is so slow with this as so many vets have hearing loss from their military duties.
