@dfodness

I had tkr in December. I still have swelling and burning around the knee cap. Not much pain other than the burning, which started only about 6 weeks ago, but the swelling is concerning to me. I've tried ice, elevation, compression sock and nothing seems to work. Is this normal this far out in recovery or should I be concerned?

I had T K R in Feb 22.still have swelling. I had that burning pretty bad for a while. Pain pills did not help it. I thought to ask for a muscle relaxer, Dr called me in Robaxin, after a few times of it the burning stopped. I don't know what the burning was. But has not came back. I know we are all different but just Sharing. Hope you get relief soon.

Hi, does anyone know if your leg can be straightened after a TKR? If so how?

My surgeon has me lay on my bed on my stomach. My legs hang over. To straighten it further than what gravity does, I push down on surgical leg with my good leg (ay the ankle.). I lay like this for 30-60 seconds at a time and do 3-5 sets times multiple times daily. I hope this makes sense.

Hello @dfodness and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I am sorry to hear about your post-op burning.

There was an existing discussion on the topic of burning after total total knee replacement so you will notice I have moved your post here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/burning-after-total-knee-replacement/

Feel free, if you'd like, to scroll through the discussion to learn what others have shared.

The combination of burning plus swelling seems like reason enough to call your surgeon to discuss if he/she would like to see you back in office or what they would recommend for additional recovery time?

Thank you Mary. I do understand that exercise. Makes sense. Will do it. I
am at -15 on straighten. Dr is having a machine at my house to help out.
The cpm has really hurt my knee. After mua I went backwards on rom. So I
feel very confused. And back to thearpy this week. Worn out. I appreciate
your advice greatly.

Mary , I seen the video, it did say not a good idea with lower back trouble. Which I have had 2 back surgeries. So the one home health gave me to do before last visit was with 2 chairs. Very painful. But do along as I can hold. Now I can't get in on pt ti a week from now. Very little thearpy since mua. Well you know the Dr will say scar tissue. No more mua. It set me back so far. I wish you the best. Thank you for advice.

I have had my TKR 4 weeks ago and I'm having such burning sensation on the inside beside my knee. It feels worse with doing the excercises. The knee itself has no pain and I'm walking good. But that burning!! I feel it happened when I have tried to get out of bed. I pushed myself with the operated leg to turn round.
I hope I have not pulled the muscle. So doing the excercises is rather not helping at all. I'm out of painkillers as well. And it is weekend. I only have paracetamol but they don't help at all. Im really having an unbearable time tonight. I have rubbed Vic's vapo rub in the muscle which helps for a little while. Good luck to all my fellow sufferers. I guess it's still early days for me
