Transplant: frozen blueberries

Posted by hello1234 @hello1234, Jul 4, 2022

Hi all,
This morning I was eating oatmeal and without thinking I grabbed some frozen blueberries out of the bag and ate them. Do you wash your frozen blueberries or is it okay to add them to your oatmeal or yogurt straight from the bag?
Thanks everyone! And Happy July 4th

Hi @hello1234, I like frozen dark sweet cherries and eat them right out of the bag. According to this info it's safe...

"The American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) clarifies that frozen fruit is safe and ready-to-eat straight from the package, no need to wash it. This is due to its higher levels of acidity and sugar, making it unlikely that harmful bacteria could grow on it at freezer temperatures." --- Do You Need to Wash Frozen Fruits and Vegetables?: https://www.eatingwell.com/article/7941538/do-you-need-to-wash-frozen-fruits-and-vegetables/

Hi @johnbishop 😊 You are awesome! Thank you for responding so quickly and easing my mind. I was starting to be annoyed at myself for eating without thinking. I was hoping the answer was that it was okay to eat frozen fruit out of the bag with no washing. Thank you so much for finding this information for me! I really appreciate your help John. Enjoy the fireworks tonight!
