Persistent muscle twitching and possible cancer link.

Read interesting article regarding persistent muscle twitching and possible cancer connection.

If you have not had a Paraneoplastic blood test done yet than please consider getting that done to rule out a undiagnosed cancer being the cause of long term muscle twitching.

My neurologist in GA 2.5 years ago told me about this paraneoplastic blood test that can detect cancer cells in your blood meaning you have a cancerous tumor somewhere in your body but you are not aware of it yet but those cancer cells have dispersed through your bloodstream and are now affecting your nervous system or your autonomic nervous system. The neurologist said many people think they have a nervous system issue whether it's muscle twitching or any other kind of symptoms yet really it could be you have cancer and you're not aware of it yet and that paraneoplastic blood test will look for cancer cells letting the doctor know somewhere in your body that you have not found yet is a cancerous tumor.

After I moved away from Georgia almost 2 years ago I immediately told my primary care doctor about this blood test and she did another paraneoplastic blood test And that blood test is well came back as negative. There's also blood tests like the I think it's the HUNA blood test that can also detect cancer cells. That acronym of letters may be incorrect but I know it began with an H.

@joannemm30809 Yes, you are spot on. I had that test done about a month ago and getting my results at the end of the month. I'm actually hoping it comes back positive so there is finally something that's concrete to move forward with. Best of luck to both of you, and wishing you all the pain free days ahead!

I just wanted to let everybody know that there's two different blood tests that can look for cancer cells and one is the HU blood test and the other one is Paraneoplastic blood test.
I had a research all this and find this out for myself and ask my neurologist not only up in Georgia but the neurologist here in Tampa Florida to do this test. If you're sick for 3 years like I've been and I've got to push and beg for these neurologists to do much needed tests that would rule in or rule out a neurological disease or problem such as the small fiber neuropathy skin biopsy test which I should have had 2.5 years ago and I had a push and push and push to get this neurologist to do this test that I just had 2 months ago and it came back positive. And that's positive for small fiber neuropathies.

And the same goes for the HU and the Paraneoplastic blood test. Why aren't these doctors doing this. You could be walking around with a cancerous tumor brewing in your body that you're not aware of yet that is affecting and damaging your central nervous system or your autonomic nervous system to do all these crazy things that we have happening to our body and in the meantime the cancer is growing and probably spreading metastasizing to something else and here this blood test would very quickly rule out or rule in a cancerous tumor that you're not aware of yet and then you can go hunt down and look for that cancerous tumor and try to save your life from cancer.

What is wrong with the doctors in this country? I'm so sick of it.

This isn't a new test so its ponderable why you had to lobby so hard for it but I just figure that I have to find a lot of stuff myself now. Doctors were already increasingly too busy, and swamped with paperwork, in the past and things certainly got worse with the 'novel virus' pandemic.

At any rate, here's more info about the test from Mayo's cite.

I never said it was a new test and I'm not pondering or lobbying about or for anything. A lot of people that I've spoke to had no idea about this test and the doctor should be relaying this information to patients giving them the option to take this test whether it's the HU test or the paraneoplastic blood test.
The test may not be a new test and I never said it was a new test but it's something brand new to many people's ears that are suffering and this test is not been done and ruled out a possible cancerous tumor that the patient's not aware of yet but those cancer cells that have dispersed throughout the blood are harming the nervous system or the autonomic nervous system.

I think you misunderstood what I wrote. I was addressing the fact that doctors don't always know what, in my opinion at least, it seems as if they should know.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I just can't imagine how the several neurologists that I've seen over the last three years never mentioned the HU test or the paraneoplastic test that zooms in on looking for cancer cells in the blood telling us that I could have a cancerous tumor somewhere that were just not aware of yet. All these doctors know too that I've been battling skin cancer for 30 years and recently had a melanoma skin cancer cut off my neck 2 years ago yet they never mentioned either one of these two blood tests. I had to do the research myself and then push for them to do it.

I've decided that there no rest for the weather (patients). Medicine is becomg ao hyper-specialized that I envision a time when an infected finger will require finding a physician who specializes in that exact digit. And then finding one of those who will handle both the right or the left hand's digits.

In the meantime, I tend to remember the old adage that, to a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Doctors can get very narrow-focused and see only nails thar they know how to deal with.
