Any Mayo EP willing to do ablation with Eliquis less than 21 days?

The EP I am seeing is requiring I start Eliquis and be on it for 21 days before he will do ablation. I have paroxysmal a-flutter/fib, every few days, otherwise low and irregular heart rate with presyncope. I can slow and stop the afib with the valsalva maneuver. Echo was entirely normal in February, may have changed now. Walk every day 1.5 miles, losing weight successfully. Was on Dr. Sinatra natural anticoagulants ( Krill, Nattokinase, Lumbrokinase E tocopherols, Garlic, Ginger tea, baby aspirin ) Current EP says must be on Eliquis before during and after ablation. Had a recommendation to consider changing EP to either Dr. Packer or Munger. I am 79, never had to take any long term meds or had any long term health issue. But anxious to get this ablation done, don't know if I should switch EPs. very worried about bleeding and he doesn't seem to care, just says bleeding is better than stroke. Thanks for any info on having to be on Eliquis for 21 days. I'd go tomorrow if I could...

Hello Colleen, no, I'm actually not a patient at Mayo. We live in Apple Valley (near Burnsville, south of Twin Cities. I was just wondering if any of the EPs at Mayo require anticoagulation for a month before they will do ablation.

Hello Colleen, no, I'm actually not a patient at Mayo. We live in Apple Valley (near Burnsville, south of Twin Cities. I was just wondering if any of the EPs at Mayo require anticoagulation for a month before they will do ablation.

I certainly understand your concern about potential risks: bleeding, stroke, etc. You want to feel comfortable and confident in your care.

Thank you, Colleen, I did submit my question regarding if any of the Mayo EPs all require 21 (or more) days of NOAC anticoagulation prior to doing ablation. Thank you for that link

Hi @mclare I have had an ablation at Mayo Phoenic but I was not on any blood thinners as my problem was ventricle in nature and typically does not have pooling of blood in the lower chamber like in your case of afib. Sorry I cant help. Afib is pretty common so I'm sure others may be able to help with your question
