Can't get an appointment: Any tips on what to do?
Over a year trying to get an appointment, Scottsdale/Phoenix. I have two issues that may or may not be related. 5 'regular' doctors and 2 years later reveals what are likely lumbar spinal issues, but none of them can account for an issue in my left abdominal area. Last Doc I saw sent referral to Mayo, April 2020. Mayo says 2-3 years to establish primary care. I asked for an appt (internal medicine, interns, anyone at this point) for a comprehensive physical, to basically start over, but I keep getting rejected. I don't understand.

I am so sorry to hear this. I am praying for you 🙏🏼
My wife & I are both in our 70’s and are patients at Mayo MN. Live in IL and have Medicare + BCBSIL supplement. Wife has multiple issues and goes 3-4 times a year. She had lung surgery for very rare disease there 3 years ago. I have COPD and also just had major rectal cancer surgery there in May. Never had any problems getting in, with treatment, or anything and both of us were self referrals.
Hi @billess, Welcome to Connect. I'm a Mayo Rochester patient also. Thanks for sharing your experience with Rochester Mayo. Do you mind sharing how you found Connect? Were you looking to get a question answered?
I have Blue Shield and Medicare..would that help? I queried Blue Shield and they said I was 100% covered for the medical treatments. Luckily I have children that live in Phoenix.
I found Connect when I was deep searching for any info related to my Colorectal cancer surgery. Found the exchange of info very helpful and joined.
For those of you asking about insurance plans and Medicare. Yes, Mayo Clinic accepts Medicare patients. It is best to contact Mayo Clinic as state criteria may differ depending on which Mayo Clinic you wish to visit.

I tried reaching dr lacy in Jacksonville as did my gi specialist and we never were able to connect
My PCP got me in by doing the physician referral program. It is on the Mayo site. Best Wishes
Hi @arnoldgilbergmdphd, to submit a request for an appointment, please fill out the online form or ask your GI specialist to submit a physician referral, as @lilymol suggests. Links to both can be found on this webpage: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63
You can certainly mention that you're interested in seeing Dr. Lacy in your request. Appointments cannot be made directly with a specific physician. Mayo Clinic offers a team approach of care.
Took me 7 months /3.5 on waiting list and 3.5 to wait for appts for testing they set up . That was in Jacksonville FL , Mayo .
I had a televisit w/ a Gastro Dr after 3.5 months. Went Oct 2021 for 3 tests . Unfortunately the tests showed the same thugs I already knew . So I spent $4k out of pocket to go there for 3 nights ( had to get air b&b) . The Dr.’s think I’m a bit of a medical mystery after 9 years chronic suffering with 6-7 Gastro diagnoses. That was was 5 th Gastro Dr. Had over 20 tests in 9 years. It effects every single day / night if my life . Your specialist should be able to get you in w/ referral. I called many times to ask about how far I was on waitlist. Keep on trying . Hope you get your answers .
