Hello. Are there any results yet from stem cell treatment trials for COPD? Is it showing anything prosperous?
How long do you think it will take to phase 3 trial? 10 years? 15? 20? 50?
Thank you so much. So many people need hope. Thank you.
Tina

Hi Tina, Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect and the COPD group. Stem cell therapy is still in the trial phase for COPD.
To help people learn more about the proven therapies and the promise of developing therapies, Mayo Clinic offers a free telephone consult service. When you call the consult service, they will tell you about the availability of approved stem cell therapy at Mayo Clinic and elsewhere, and for what conditions. They can also tell you about research studies that are actively recruiting participants. Furthermore, you can add your name to a database to be notified when additional studies and information become available. You can learn more about the Consult Service here http://www.mayo.edu/research/centers-programs/center-regenerative-medicine/patient-care/clinical-services/regenerative-medicine-consult-service.
Or call 1-844-276-2003 to speak with one of our experts.
Be careful when reading online that some clinics offer cures for COPD using stem cells.
For now they think it is asthma because of + bronho test, but they say a little bit of it is also COPD because asthma was untreated..
Should I read from this spirometry my FEV1 is 95%? If this is so, do I have 20 years of life still? I don't get it, I don't cough or get tired. I hope I have 20 years of life and that in these 20 years Mayo clinic will invent something so I can still jump on that train.

I was diagnosed with COPD in 2003, I am now 84 still kicking. I do get short of breath easily but like I said I'm 84 so this is expected I guess. I think you will long enough for your daughters to enjoy your company.

In what stage were you diagnosed?
I still don't feel like dying in my 64 years. So i really hope some treatment with stem cells or AT2 cells will be available in next 20 years 🙁
I don't remember what stage they said I was in, however it was 10-12 years before I started noticing any lung problems, I don't normally talk about my bad habits, but I smoke weed for 50 years along with cigarettes, but I quit cigarettes the same year I was diagnosed with COPD still smoked weed for another 4-5 years I don't look to dying any time soon. Hopefully they will improve on the stem cell therapy soon.
Yes around 74 I was in construction and did a lot of heavy lifting and did really notice anything until I started going up hills and it has gotten steadily worse since then but I think I still have a few more years. I just do things slower
