Vaginal burning: What could it be?
I am a 67 year old who in the last two months have a severe burning sensation in my vaginal area. I have been to every specialist and no one knows why. I have had a CT, Ultra sound, and been examined numerous times. There are no findings to what is causing this pain. I have no underlying medical conditions. Prior to this I was extremely healthy. Now I am in pain management and desperately want to be off pain medication and find a Dr who can diagnose what is happening to cause this burning. Any suggestions would be extremely welcome.

I use Luvena 3x/week and before sex. Regimen prescribed by Mayo Clinic Rochester Women's Health Clinic. Luvena does not contain polypropylene glycol. I am 64. Post menopausal. Previously used eString (great!! But had to discontinue due to breast cancer.) Luvena works well for me. I get it at CVS, Target, or Amazon.
@kk57 , thank you so much. I’ll try. Is it a cream? I looked it up and it does say it has propolyene glycol. What formula (type?) TSO you have as that makes a difference. For example, I use AstroGlide Gel does Not have propolyene glycol - But the liquid version/type of AstroGlide does. Thank you.
@kk57 I’m sorry. I stand corrected. I was looking at Amazon questions of Luveena and they listed propylene glycol as an ingredient. I did find the Luveena website and they do Not list it as an ingredient. Ammy must have old info or the seller on Ammy has old products.
Thank you for the info.
I have this condition and my doctor put me on estrogen cream three times a week on the outside of the vagina. I put some a little ways in with my finger and it has helped.
@sequoia ~ this is the one I use. It’s kind of a gel. See ingredients.
@mmoss: I have found vaginal burning for me to be one of two things.
(1) general irritation/dryness … I’ve been told “use dove soap or no soap” when washing the area. Also be sure that you get all the soap off. Do use some kind of moisturizer after … my favorite it’s just a pat on a light layer of Vaseline. You may need to rinse after peeing and reapply until you’re healed. Sometimes even the urine can irritate the area when you have a flareup.
(2) Fissures: have you looked at the area to see if there are tiny cuts/tears in the skin. They can really really sting! The only way I have been able to get the cuts to heal is to use a topical antibiotic called Mupiricin (I believe the generic is Bactroban). You will need a prescription for this.
Hope this helps!!! Good luck.
@kk57 thank you. That is the one I bought at Amazon. I have a yearly exam and they tell me tissue looks fine. Your oust reminds me I need to make appointment. 🙂. Thanks.
Hi,
Have ever considered your diet? As we age food tolerance change and causes weird symptoms in our body.
I love spicy food and notice it can irritate both my vagina and anus.
My sister notice after eating strawberries her vagina smells strongly of strawberries. Craziest thing.
I hope my comment doesn’t put anyone off just trying to offer something you might not have considered.
Hopefully you find the issues soon and feel better.
yes it is a cream
My gynecologist gave me an RX for a yeast infection. It is Boric Acid 600 mg, capsule form. Inserted into vaginal for a total of 2 capsules, (2 nights)woke up at 5;00 a.m. this a.m. My vagina is on fire. Took a cold shower, then tried to use ice chips, made things worse. Is there any thing I can do at home to help me. I am burning in the vagina so bad. I took one Tramadol 50 mg. to try to help for pain. I have a diflucan left over, can I take that?
