Anyone have experience with the SoClean Machine?

Many of us who use a CPAP, BiPAP, or other breathing devices have maybe been curious about a SoClean machine that has been advertised on TV quite a bit. I'm not sure but I would imagine that it could also be used for a Trilogy machine or any device which has the same size hoses if their equipped with a water reservoir. We purchased one out of pocket because our insurance did not cover it. It has a certain smell to the hoses after cleaning that many people say is hard to get used to. In the beginning we would disconnect the SoClean and let our BiPAP run for an hour or so to help remove any smell.
Some people say it has a clean smell to it while others say it takes some getting used to but eventually they do get used to it. Knowing that their equipment is free of bacteria gives a sense of comfort.
It works by a small hose coming off the adapter and being placed into the water reservoir oxygenating the water. No drops or chemicals in the water.
The last 2 times Lilbit has been hospitalized we have used our own BiPAP machine in the hospital because Lilbit prefers her own mask. We also brought the SoClean machine to the hospital and the Drs, nurses, and respiratory therapist were all curious how it worked. One therapist asked if we thought it actually cleaned everything. I replied, I don't know we just have to rely on the FDA information. Has anyone else been interested in the SoClean machine?

Hi Elizabeth @ess77, I usually wash my CPAP hose once a month and rely on the SoClean 3 machine to sanitize it daily. I stopped using a humidifier tank and it works better for me without it.
Here's what the SoClean recommends -- "Can I stop washing my CPAP equipment if I am using the SoClean? Your CPAP equipment is completely sanitised every time you use the SoClean. However, the SoClean will not remove facial oils or dust or other foreign materials. 1 ReactionI used So Clean as soon as I started with my BiPAP, but stopped using it after the Phillips recall. I now use the Sleep 8 “bag” with was a pain in the behind initially, but now is as routine as using the bathroom first thing in the morning. Almost like auto pilot.
I spent a good deal of time finding out as much as I could about the Phillips recall cause. Naturally, you don't get that level of detail from their press releases, which will put a rose colored spin on things. From what I found, it seems the ozone produced by such "cleaning" systems may have been at least partially responsible for the breakdown of the sound/vibration insulation INSIDE the machine. When that insulation breaks down, it can be carcinogenic. Pumped straight into our respiratory system! *ugh*
The only reason I keep using my Phillips is I don't use any kind of ozone generating equipment and don't live at an altitude where the concern increases. I have been keeping an eye on available models and pricing for a replacement, but the glut of cheap machines that was there a few years ago has been replaced by sold out machines and high prices on the few remaining models that can be found in stock! 🙁 And in the ~year since the recall, Phillips has offered bupkiss. In their propaganda, they are trying to lay the blame on the FDA approval process. As if the FDA made them use potential carcinogenic insulation.
The SoClean machine uses Ozone to disinfect- which is why I personally won't use it. I see that the manufacturer now advertises the SoClean as using "activated oxygen" to clean...... this is a nice name for Ozone.... If not for the Ozone I would definitely use it. There is another device that cleans the CPAP, but it doesn't yet clean the inside of the hose.
I just had the same thing happen. I called my CPAP vendor and they said to stop using it immediately. They have received many reports of CPAPs becoming very loud over time thus voiding the warranty. I'm in the process of returning mine.
I have used the Soclean since 2017. 3-4 years ago i developed a dry cough. been to many specialists and doctors over the years. they pulled stuff out of my lungs and said it's a little creamy but we can't find anything. Been getting hard to breath sometimes. I used to sing for a living, I was really good too, but my voice has changed to where I can't hit any notes and sounds really bad. I truly believe the soclean has ruined my voice my living and has put me in a big depresion. I'm at a loss of what to do. I have stopped using the soclean. but I am wondering is there a cure or will it go away on it's own.
