Ketamine for chronic pain
My pain doctor recently prescribed ketamine as an adjunct to my pain management. Has anyone had experience with this? It has to be compounded and you inhale it through a nose spray. Since it’s compounded there is not much info on side effects so I’m curious about other’s experiences.

My friend did the treatment in-patient and it did nothing.
I have used Ketomine nasal spray. It made me feel drugged but it really didn’t help the pain. When I used it I could not drive. Also I was told not to use it after 5:00 because it would keep me up. After 3 hours the affect went away. I stopped taking it because I did not benefit from it. What is your pain and has Ketomine helped you?
I used it as a nasal spray for my migraines. Did not help. Neurologist wants me to do an in-patient 5 day IV of it. It's nasty and causes hallucinations and other nasty side effects so I declined.
I would decline also
They used this on me after my back fusion last year for a few days, with my permission. It was experimental, by an IV. I did have vivid dreams, no hallucinations though. My pain was so high I don’t know if it helped or not, but I did not notice any worsening when it was stopped!
Hi, my name is Doreen. I posted information about Ketamine in the Neuropathy group. I have used it since 2011 for nerve pain and other chronic pain issues. If they were giving you opiates or any other addictive meds for pain, the odds are about zero that it helped. Addictive meds of any type block the effects of Ket. I would think the physicians would be aware of this. If you try it again, please research it completely. A correct bladder protocol must be followed. Ket. is not bladder friendly. It is a known fact it destroys bladders. Since you only had it once you will be fine. I find the compounded nasal spray works well. Bladder protocol when using it too. It also come in Troche's and sublingual. Hoping and saying a prayer that you are pain free.
No-- it is a prescription.
I tried a compounded cream with ketamine and ketoprophen for peripheral nerve pain following back surgery. It didn’t work any better than OTC lidocaine.
I used it as a nose spray for daily persistent headaches. Didn't work for me either.
I had a Ketamine injection in my back. The doctor wasn’t half way through it when I started feeling “woozy”. It was about an hour later when they released me to my daughter to drive me home(i was told I would not need a ride home). I had a psychotic near death experience which was very much downplayed by my doctor. I called my other doctor and he said to absolutely not try this drug again. The pain doctor wanted to do IV infusions. I switched pain doctors. I know my body and it felt like it was shutting down.
