Chest Pain for 1 month

Posted by amm97 @amm97, Dec 18, 2019

Hi! My name is Alex and I'm a 22 year old female. I have been having left sided chest pain for about a month. The pain is on my left side and radiates under my left breast. It is a sharp, stabbing pain. It happens all the time. With the chest pain I've also have had high heart (no less 100 and up to 150 at rest) and also high blood pressure. The pain is usually between 6-8 out of 10. I also have no history of anixety.
I've had EKGs done, a stress test, chest xray, upper gi scope, and labs. Everything so far has came back normal. My doctor has me scheduled for a kidney ultrasound next week.

Any suggestions?
Thank you.

That is curious, for sure. Do you have any updates? Could you have a broken rib or an issue with your pleural space? I am asking because what you describe are similar symptoms to what my husband experienced with pleural mesothelioma. Or perhaps the pain is referred from another part of your chest or spine? Please let us know what you find out.

If you are set up on FB. Search Prinzmetal Angina Support Group. You can join even though you may not know this is what is going on however it will give you an idea if your symptoms are the same and ask questions 🙏

No updates right now. But when back around November 10th when this all started, I was in the ER they did an chest x-ray and they didnt find anything. But my doctor is considering order an chest CT due to the stress test coming back normal. It's just hard to believe all these are coming back normal but yet I'm still in pain and experiencing symptoms.

@amm97 You might want to consider thoracic outlet syndrome if no heart related issues are found. I have TOS and it has caused chest pain symptoms like you describe and can cause a muscle spasm into the chest, and it is enough to start twisting ribs because of overly tight muscles. When my chest is tight it affects my breathing and expansion of my ribs, and it can cause a fast heart rate. TOS causes tightness between the collar bone and rib cage and with many nerves passing through there after they exit the spine, compression can occur. I also have asthma, so excess phlegm can do that because of allergies in addition to the physical issues. I have had a resting heart rate over 100 because of a chest infection which was a reoccurring problem for me, but that is getting better because of physical therapy and better allergy/asthma control. You may have them check your thyroid. If it is overactive (or for a person taking too much medication for thyroid), it will cause a fast heart rate. Myofascial release is my treatment that I do with my physical therapist and it helps a lot, but takes time to work through all the layers. Here are some links with information and our discussion about MFR.

I’ve been having upper abdominal pain since August and I have yet to figure out why. The pain alternates from upper left side to upper right side. The pain comes and goes throughout the day and sometimes radiates to my upper back. The pain is a crampy stabbing type of pain. Food doesn’t make worse normally. I’ve also had significant weight loss this year I have loss 23 lbs unintentionally. I’ve had an upper scope and colonoscopy done both were normal. CT scan in September was normal. I recently had a duplex ultrasound done which showed possible median arcuate ligament syndrome but it also showed stenosis in the celiac and super mesentery artery. I’m waiting to get a ct angiogram done. Any advice because the pain is starting to get worse and I don’t what else to do. I’ve also had my gallbladder out 6 years ago.

It may sound far-fetched; however, my wife had and has pain that comes and goes on her lower left side, not deep pain just lower rib area. She has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia in the past. Nothing helps discomfort, it just comes and goes.

Hi Art, I have had pain like that. My physical therapist evaluated me, and concluded that it was actually from poor posture - if I sit on our comfy reclining leather sofa very much, the pain comes. Also if I have poor posture at the computer it's there.
If I have good posture, sit upright & stretch regularly it mostly stays away. (PS I have fibromyalgia & severe arthritis)
Just something to consider. OUr recliners are not always the best place to be.

Hello @amm97. I noticed that you had made a previous post with regard to your pain and figured it would be nice to move your most recent post back there to keep your updates in one place.

I wonder if you've ever heard of keeping a symptom journal? You could jot down a few regular details of your day to include activity, food, hydration, sleep, etc. to see if you can find any external factors that may be contributing and/or exacerbating your symptoms. Is this something that you might be interested in trying?
