What's your review of Cochlear Osia 2 System?

Howdy. My doctor actually recommended doing one side first, and waiting a year or two before deciding on the second one.
I also have bilateral hearing loss, but so far, the single Osia 2 is enough for me.

My concern would be if I only had a single implant and that one was lost or stopped working I would be unable to communicate. Makes me anxious if one of my In canal aids stops working, Thanks for your input. Tom

I was implanted with one CI in 2005. I requested it be done on my poorer ear. Now, that ear is the 'better' ear due to the CI. While I qualify for a 2nd CI, I've hesitated because my bimodal tests show that I'm hearing 93% with both technologies. Should my tests show a decline in the future, I would not hesitate to go bilateral. We are living in such wonderful times with the options available to us. It has helped me so much to meet and talk to other people like me! I credit The Hearing Loss Assn. of American for that. Hello! So helpful reading all the comments about the Osia 2. I'm scheduled for surgery in 2 weeks. I have medium length, curly hair and wondering if any of you with the Osia have had trouble with "hair feedback" from the processor? If annoying at the beginning, do you get use to it? Thanks!

@hollysw I have long hair now although it was short when I got my CI years ago. I've never had any problems either way. Be prepared to hear sounds you've not heard for a long time. The fun part is trying to identify them! 🙂

I'm excited for you! I remember having such mixed emotions before my surgery. I was excited to have the technology to hear better, but I was also anxious that the Osia wouldn't meet my expectations and I would be disappointed or that it wouldn't work at all and I'd be disappointed. These fears and concerns are natural, I think.

When my device was activated, all of those fears and anxiety went away. I find the device to be extremely comfortable (like wearing a barrette in my hair) and the sound is just like (to me) my natural hearing. Thank goodness we live in a time where such technologies are available to us.

Best of luck with your surgery! Surgery tip: get a wedge for your bed so your upper body/head can be elevated. The first 24 hours, when you have to keep the ear cover on, does get a bit painful because the cover is so tight. I would lift it off of my ear (by sticking my finger under the edge of it) to take the pressure off occasionally. I was sore in my neck and shoulder areas after surgery so any natural anti-inflammatory like cinnamon or turmeric might help you (and ibuprofen). My hair was a disgusting, matted mess after surgery. I think the antiseptic they use to clean the skin was dried into my hair, which made things worse. Maybe you can ask them to minimize that somehow for you. lol Overall, it was totally bearable and 100% worth it!
