Long Covid Fatigue - Exhausting Physically and Mentally

Posted by julesmango @julesmango, Feb 19, 2022

It’s been 14mo. Dealing with Fatigue and migraines. Daily naps help but looking for an explanation on what is going on in my body. Up til now all the Dr. Said it was too early to tell. Today I read The NY Times article’ How Long Covid Exhausts the Body’ by Josh Keller (https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/02/19/science/long-covid-causes.html) and for the first time got some explanations on what maybe causing this. Although it is only the beginning of understanding what this virus is capable of, at least it is a start. Very insightful!! Worth reading.

Hello @clh2022 and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I am so sorry to hear that you have been going through this for 9 months. I wanted to connect you with @julesmango and @robinholly who are part of an existing discussion on long-haul to see if they could share some more information with you based on their experience. You can also see an article that was posted if you click on the reply button and scroll up to the top of the discussion.

While we wait for them to join, can you share what you have tried and if anything provides even moderate relief?

I have shortness of breath (intermittent) and the brain fog, lethargy. I've been trying to take my pills on time, eat better meals and keep up the hydration, which seems to help somewhat. I did double up my antidepressant (Dr knows), added sublingual B-12, and daily magnesium. Some windows of consciousness, these days.

Thank you for the article information. My husband is going through this and I didn't. He is diabetic and I am not. I also work in a hospital and have always had an excellent immune system because of exposure. He is having frequent headaches and runs a fever almost every afternoon. This article explains many possibilities of these responses. I will take this article to his doctor tomorrow and hopefully it can help others as we also continue this journey back to health. Thanks for the support of this group. We live at the coast in NC and I work in a SC hospital.

Napping every day has helped me or lay down when i feel a headache coming. Also I take a Rizatriptan pill as soon as I feel a migraine coming on., Hope that helps.
