Description
Second Chance is a weekly in-person support group for Mayo Clinic patients and their caregivers pre- and post-transplant of the liver, kidney, and pancreas. Every Tuesday, the group provides support, education, and perspective or insight into the transplant process, especially recovery and life after transplant. Through facilitated discussion, members help members with their specific questions, needs, and concerns.

Is there a cut off age to receive a Kidney Transplant or to be put on dialysis?
Hi . I know 2 men who received a kidney transplant at the age of 72 and 75 . I think it's down how fit you are to receive a organ . As for dyalisis no age limit I think
Thanks…that does sound reasonable…good motivation to try and stay in shape.I have CKD stage 3 but was told I don’t need to follow a diet,…just cut down on sodium and less red meat…which seems a little lax to me….
Liver Transplant Patients who have had bariatric surgery, how is that working out for you?
I was diagnosed stage 3 . 16 yrs before my transplant. Low sodium . Potassium and zero red meat is my advice to you . Excercise 5 times a week . Drink water and avoid sodas
Thank you…much food for thought and encouraging.
Refection, I am assuming that you are younger than myself(83 yrs)…guess I am wondering that maybe the drs. Are not bothering very much about my diet etc … is because at my age it doesn’t matter much since I may not have that many years left to live and I shouldn’t let myself get stressed out about diet, low BP, varicose veins, pre-diabetic numbers, etc. I don’t necessarily want all sorts of invasive procedures but I still have paintings to do and life to live. So if there tests, diets to follow and rxs I should be taking….I would like to know… don’t want to find out when it is too late that I should have been doing this or that. Apologies for going on and on; but this lack of knowledge and communication is frustrating
I am trying to make a decision on having gastric bypass. I would really appreciate others honest views on the subject. Thank you
