Anyone tried CBD oil or medical marijuana for PMR?

Posted by priscillat @priscillat, Feb 8, 2022

I had such a bad day yesterday that I sent a note to my doctor about upping my prednisone (currently on 6 mg). Then I wondered, has anyone tried CBD oil or medical marijuana for PMR….

I'm sorry you had a bad day. When my PMR was active, my PCP suggested trying CBD products. I took his advice and purchased some oil and also the gummies, but I did not get the least bit of relief from using them. The only thing that relieved my pain was prednisone. I hope you are feeling better soon.

My physician told me that the oils have no anti-inflammatory components in them, since PMR is inflammatory it would not help.
I am sorry that you are feeling poorly!

@priscillat, were you able to speak with your doctor about increasing the prednisone dosage? How are you today?

I've been taking CBD oil since 2018 which always helped my regular pain, but it did nothing for PMR pain, in fact, it does not mix well with Prednisone and I can only injest a wee bit as it tends to make me really spacey (which it never did) and saying stupid things. Prednisone has brought my pain down 100%. The side effects are a trade-off but willing to accept them. Returning to work on Monday, part-time, after 6 months. I think I will not need another bottle of CBD for quite some time.

Thanks for your input. I have not tried CBD for any pain other than PMR so I am interested to know that it is helpful for some kinds of pain. Glad you are feeling well enough to resume work part-time. I wish you the best in your PMR journey and hope you achieve complete remission soon.

In addition to the PMR, I also have a herniated disc which likes to act up and that's initially why I started with CBD oil in 2018, but with the Prednisone that has also been alleviated. All the best to you as well.

Be careful. I tried some CBD and I am guessing that it had some THC as a contaminant. I also got a little dizzy. The PROBLEM is most if not all CBD is not made to drug (FDA) standards so you are not sure what you are getting. I tried two different brands of CBD and both affected my reactions. One of the products note that it didn't contain THC. No way of knowing what it really contains.

The CBD that I think had some THC did help my pain, but due to the dizziness, I can't take it.

I'm taking .01 mL right now and that's the most I can do. That's the lowest mark on the dropper. LOL. This is supposed to have less than .01 of THC and it's 50MG CBD. I don't like the effect at all; so I would rather stick with the Prednisone alone for now, until I titrate it down some. Also, if I take the CBD oil around 6:30AM and take the Prednisone at 10:30AM with my breakfast (because I can't eat that early in the morning), then that seems to be okay. The thing is there are so many benefits to CBD oil. We will get it balanced out sooner or later. Take care of yourself and thanks for your reply.
