Anyone experienced nipple soreness post menopause?
I am 58, post menopausal. Within about the last week my nipples have become tender, similar to how it used to feel before or on my period. They also are more flat, and the aereola is less pink than normal. They used to change with temperature, but now seem to be more flattened out in general. I don't feel sick otherwise, and am not on any medications. Anyone out there who has experienced this kind of change or tenderness?

I have had these exact same symptoms that you described minus having COVID. I have been vaccinated completely, including booster, and am 4 years postmenopausal (age 51). The only difference is that I am on anastrozole (estrogen blocker) to prevent return of my breast cancer diagnosed last July. It certainly is strange that we have such similar symptoms. I attributed it to the anastrozole but maybe it's something different. I have no clue.
I'm happy to hear this!
I am experiencing nipple soreness as well. It started about 3 months ago. I’m 57, 4 years post menopause, complete hysterectomy 1 year ago, normal mammograms every six months, dense breasts, normal breast ultrasound, and normal breast MRI about 6 months ago. Went to see my breast surgeon and nothing abnormal found on breast exam. I was advised to continue with monthly self-breast exams, routine mammograms and yearly MRIs due to high risk for developing breast cancer.
What caused your doctors concern about possible breast cancer? I have very dense breast tissue, and get an annual 3D mammogram, but no extra MRI. The Mayo clinic in Rochester, MN, is handling this.
My gynecologist recommended a breast cancer risk assessment due to my family history (sister and maternal aunt with past history of breast cancer - both are breast cancer survivors). The results of that assessment showed that I am high risk of developing breast cancer within the next 5 years, and that’s why the yearly MRIs are being done. Also, with dense breasts, the routine mammograms may not pick it up if it occurs. The symptom of sore nipples does not seem to be a concern to the breast surgeon as there is no discharge, no dimpling, no inverted nipple, etc. It only concerns me because it is a new symptom that has developed this year.
After reading these posts, I’m thinking this is most likely due to post-menopausal hormone changes.
Thank you for your answer. I have very dense breast tissue, and that is why I get 3D mammograms, which are essentially similar to an MRI, but do not scan the entire body, but just the breast tissue
I am experiencing this now. Dr tomorrow
What was yours from?
I’m going to be 61 and am experiencing really sore nipples.
I haven’t had my period in like 5-6 years so didn’t expect this to happen, and I’m feeling very overwhelmed and sad. Must be the dreaded hormones. Grrrrrr I’m glad I found this site. I don’t feel alone now
I had front of breast tenderness and eggwhite cervical mucus a week plus ago, then bleeding today. Makes me think I ovulated... but I'm 52 and it's been almost 2 years since my last period. Can't get in for female gynecologist until 2 months from now. Is it normal to ovulate again after this long, or should I treat this as more concerning...?
