Dealing with long COVID and COVID pneumonia

Posted by ineedanswers38 @ineedanswers38, Jan 24, 2022

Hello everyone, so I started feeling sick around dec 16th, self quarantined until the 22nd only to test positive for covid it’s been a rollercoaster since then. I ended up in the er on dec 31st due to shortness of breath, back and chest pain ( I am vaccinated as well) after a chest x ray I was told I had a mild case of covid in my lungs but not to worry so they sent me home with prednisone, and albuterol inhaler. FF to Jan 8th I woke up and couldn’t take a deep breath with chest and back pain and after using the inhaler and taking a nebulizer treatment and neither worked I ended up back in the er where once again I received a chest x ray, prednisone and ketorolac for pain/inflammation. This time the dr told me that I had pneumonia in my lungs but it was still mild and sent me home with the same scripts as before. I tested positive on the 22nd of dec, the 31st and Jan 6th. Since then I’ve had diarrhea at least twice a week accompanied by slight headaches and my insides are shaky some days. I’m really at a lost and don’t know what to do. Can anyone give me some insight on this please and thank you.

@ineedanswers38 I am wondering if you are still testing positive or mainly troubled by the lingering symptoms you are experiencing? How is your lung health now?

Hi @amandajro, well I haven’t retested yet only because my symptoms keep reoccurring and since I’ve tested positive 3x it kinda discouraged me. So I figured once I fully stopped having symptoms I would set up a retest. But I haven’t had a full week of no symptoms yet unfortunately. My lung health seems to be better at least to the point that my rescue inhaler is helping but I have noticed that I am using the inhaler a lot more than before covid.

So far as a newcomer, I haven’t seen any information about covid pneumonia. I was diagnosed at the end of Jan’22. Hospitalized for 5 days receiving covid infusion. At age 79, I still am on oxygen and told it could be permanent. I have an appointment at Mayo Rochester in October to see if anything more can be done.

I was also in the hospital with Covid pneumonia. For one week in November 2021. I was sent home with oxygen and fortunately was able to quit using the oxygen after a week. I am 57 years old. Still dealing with dizziness and tightness in my upper body and left side. Keeping you in my thoughts and hope you find relief soon!

Your youth helped you in not getting more sick, perhaps? But having symptoms for going on for almost a year! I hope you get more relief soon.
What a world and life- changing thing Covid has become.

hello all. i got covid pneumonia on june 8th 2021 and was hospitalized from june 15 until august 1. yes a very long time. i was sent home on oxygen and told it mughr ve forever. i had a rented unit but i akso bought a portable oxygen generator that was wonderful. it plugs into cigarette lighter in car. it can last about 3 hours on battery but also plugs into wall. i kept testing positive for covid until late october of 2021. wgen released from hospital i started lung rehab and did that for 11 weeks. then i followed that with 11 weeks of physical rehab. i cane off of oxygen in june 2022- one year later.
my experience is unusual im told in that as severe as i was did not have to go on a ventilator and i did come off oxygen supplementation. i was very loyal to my nebulizer! even though ny docs kept saying to use nebulizer. i also was sent home with 3 months of decomethesone. dont ve in a rush. use your oxygen at night whike your body is trying to recover regardless if you use it during the day. your body will will tell you when you are ready to get off. dont believe or worry about about people who say you can get addicted to oxygen. you are addicted as we all are to breathing! use what you need to breathe.

also for anyone still struggling in breathing i would recommend a little tool called THE BREATHER. you can get it on amazon. it really works to strengthen you breathing muscles
