Booster after getting COVID vaccine produced in China

I got two shots of China vaccine more than six months ago, and now I’m trying to decide which vaccine get next:
1. Completely disregard the Chinese shots, and just start with the first Pfizer shot of the primary series. If so, should I be getting three shots since I’m a liver transplant patient?
2. If I consider the two Chinese shots, would I be getting the third primary shot now, and then continuing with the booster next?
3. Would I consider the two Chinese shots as the primary series, and now I would be starting with the booster shot.

I’m just trying to understand the timing of my shots, and what to tell the people who give me the shots so I can have a clear plan.

Also, I’m wondering if there are any additional precautions I should take in terms of side effects.

These are great questions to ask your primary care physician, or better yet, an infectious disease doctor.

My brother lives in Eastern Europe and got the Chinese vaccine last year. Three weeks ago he got Covid and is finally recovering from it. He didn’t have to go to the hospital, which is good, but he still was pretty sick. You will want to talk to a specialist soon.

@echo2022, Welcome to Mayo Connect. These are good questions, important questions, and you are absolutely justified with inquiring about what kind of a vaccination plan will be the best for you. As a transplant patient, I always ask my transplant team first. They are the ones who know my immunosuppression and how to best guide me for my care. My PCP has always been in agreement with their advice.
You mention China vaccination - Does that mean that you were vaccinated outside of the USA? Are you a transplant patient?

@echo2022, Welcome to Mayo Connect. These are good questions, important questions, and you are absolutely justified with inquiring about what kind of a vaccination plan will be the best for you. As a transplant patient, I always ask my transplant team first. They are the ones who know my immunosuppression and how to best guide me for my care. My PCP has always been in agreement with their advice.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I got Chinese vaccine last year and I am a transplant patient. I lived in China last year and my specialist is also in China. He isn't family with American vaccine. I made an appointment with the specialist here in April, but more and more infected cases now, my friends said that I should go to get vaccinated as soon as possible. I found here and wanted to get more information.

I‘m sorry to hear that. I hope your brother could recover finally. It's not easy to get antibodies to transplant patients. 🙁

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I got Chinese vaccine last year and I am a transplant patient. I lived in China last year and my specialist is also in China. He isn't family with American vaccine. I made an appointment with the specialist here in April, but more and more infected cases now, my friends said that I should go to get vaccinated as soon as possible. I just found a PCP and made an appointment with a specialist in UCI Health. I don't know where and who I can connect with a transplant center.

I don’t know who where UCI is or what kind of specialist you are going to see. But you can ask about a referral or recommendation at your appointment.
You might be able to get follow up care at a local provider who will coordinate with a transplant center if you live at a distance. I got my transplant at Mayo Rochester MN and return there annually at a distance of 800 miles. My PCP takes care of me locally.

What kind of transplant did you get? How long ago?

I don’t know who where UCI is or what kind of specialist you are going to see. But you can ask about a referral or recommendation at your appointment.

UCI is University of California at Irvine. My PCP is in UCI health. I think the specialist I made an appointment in April is just a Gastroenterology. It's not correct, right? I should look for ones in Transplant Hepatology in transplant center. Do I need my PCP to make a referral or I can directly call them to make an appointment? I started to have a fever again and have a runny nose now. I worry about it now. I usually need to live in the hospital if I have a fever in China.
