How do you deal with dry eyes?

I am sure Tyrvaya is very expensive since it is so new. Does anyone know if insurance covers it?

Hi Nancy, I looked at the website for Tyrvaya and there are offers for discounts from their company for prescriptions and information to see if this product is right for you.

A quick search online shows a monthly supply is $580 to $630. Definitely on the pricy side!

Do you suffer from dry eyes? What do you use for relief?

Thank you for the information Lori. At that price, I won't be trying Tyrvaya. I suffer greatly from Dry Eye. I use Restasis in morning and night; Systane gel at night and very often Genteal drops during day. Been using silicon plugs for a couple of years but had them removed because they irritated my eyes. Am also using warm compresses when I take a bath. Just ordered preservative-free drops and hope they help. I love to read but haven't been able to with the dry eyes.

What is that injection and does it really help?

That’s so miserable not being able to enjoy reading because of your dry eyes! I’m sorry for that. It’s a big part of my life and really tough to imagine giving up that daily enjoyment.
However, there was a period a few years ago, going through some medical issues, when I wasn’t able to hold a book or read much. A friend gave me a subscription Audio Books. That was a really great way to still enjoy my books without having to physically be involved. The only drawback, I would fall asleep pretty often while listening. 🥴 But it was pretty easy to simply back track to find where I drifted off.

Have you tried Audio books or another narrated literature APP? How about any Podcasts?

Another thing I’ve used but no longer need is the Bruder Moist Heat Eye Compress. (About $20.00) You can put it in the microwave for an even, warm heat on the eyes without having to get up and re-warm the wash cloth? Have you tried that?

I currently have excellent relief from dry eye from dissolvable punctual plugs by Oasis that last for approximately 6 months. They were placed in lower and upper punctum. I’m 4 mos. in and still doing well. The whites of my eyes have not been this white in several years. A doctor at Mass Eye and Ear put them in. Years ago I had silicone plugs put in and they came out all the time b/c I use makeup remover on eyes at night so when I rubbed the eye, they came out. So anyone who wears makeup, silicone plugs will come out when rubbing eyes with makeup remover. The doctor who put the silicone plugs in was not trying to help me, he just wanted the surgical copay from my health insurance every time he replaced them. Then they tried to talk me into expensive LipiFlow treatment not covered by insurance. Thank God I found an incredible opthamoligist. For anyone in the Boston area, I suggest going to Dr Pedram Hamrah who is not only one of the best in Boston but possibly the world. If you’re in Florida, I suggest going to Bascom Palmer if there’s one near you to find a good cornea specialist. They’re world renowned.

So to the nay sayer who posted he never met anyone that punctual plugs worked for, I’m living proof.

I have only used xiidra and it works for me. It may sting a bit depending on how dry your eye is. They barely sting mine unless I’m symptomatic and only then, they will sting more. Vision may be blurry for ten minutes. I also use lid scrubs 1x a day, Bruder mask 2x a day, xiidra 2x a day, Genteal or Systane eye ointment tucked in lower lid before going to bed.

They’re working for me. Dr Reza Dana at Mass Eye and Ear in Boston used 6 month dissolvable plugs. My eyes were so dry and eyes were so inflamed, whites of my eyes were red. The whites of my eyes are now white, I had forgotten what that looked like prior to dry eye and punctual plugs. I have then in both lower and upper punctum. .

Happy for you. This was tried three times with desolving and permanent plugs but of to no avail.
