Grover's Disease: What works to help find relief?

Posted by 43219876x @43219876x, Sep 23, 2016

I have been diagnosed with Grover's disease under my breasts. I had a biopsy for diagnosis. Tried topical ointment with no really good results. Any ideas?

groverclevland- I didn't make a note of your link. In truth that is because I never had luck getting specific information from manufacturers about the processing elements. Yes they know if it is cotton or polyester, but not the prosessing elements. I don't have the blue dye allergy, but I do a severe allergy to an element in rubber, Mercaptobenzothiazole. It is one of 2 elements in rubber used to blend materials like poly/cotton, nylon, elastics and more. It is actually the lesser used element, yet here's the problem- the maker of the clothing has no idea what elements were used in the fabric processing. Most all fabric comes from China, gone are the days of American fabric manufactures. So even if the product is made in the USA, the material normally comes from overseas. I simply have to avoid all elastics for example while some may be safe for me. My misery is so great I don't take a chance.
I hope your blood draw will test for all metals. With my blood testing I learned I was allergic to 5 metals, yet this wasn't a test for mercury, it was a test for the metal elements in a knee replacement.
Mercury is not the only heavy metal. I think that is why the cilantro worked for me because it is a heavy metal detox.
Are you allergic to Blue Dye? This is a common allergen and most of us get exposed wearing denim.
Is your back clear enought for a 5 Day Patch Test for Blue Dye? Testing is still iffy. I've been patch tested twice with panels of about 80, yet each time the patch test showed no metal allergens. Yet the blood test showed postive allergies to 5 which I still don't have an medical explaination for the differences. Nickle is a common allergy, which I knew I had because of nickle in cheap pierced earring studs. My pieced ears will get red and swollen and turn black inside the hole. Yet gold and stainless cause no reaction. Still nickle didn't react on my patch test, yet on a scale of 1-3, I tested at a 2 or moderately allergic to nickle on the blood test. I'm assuming the blood test is more accurate.
I hope you learn something.

I think it’s worth your while to try the liquid Cilantro. It’s been working well for me.

Has anyone ever been prescribed Ammonium Lac Lotion? My GD is spreading, but it’s only spreading on one side of my body, which I find really strange. Does the disease tend to “run it’s course”? That’s what my dermatologist told me. The derm said that the rash does eventually go away, it just takes time. I’m really giving up hope. I’ve tried everything

Try some Miracle Oil tea tree skin creme. It comes in a four ounce jar and is not that expensive. I had Grover’s Disease for 20 years and it was 90% gone after a week using this cream. No more itching and just a few small spots. I couldn’t believe how well it worked as I just tried it on a whim. I believe it works by reducing the number of Demodex mites that live on our skin which have been linked to Grover’s disease. I used it twice a day for about a week and now in the morning after I shower. Good luck.

I've found biofreeze helps. At 4% menthol it's 8x stronger than Sarna, both of which are available in generic.

Did you get a definitive Grover's diagnosis? Is it possible you had something else? Also, regarding your mite theory, can you point us to studies showing the connection of mites and Grover's? Do mites amplify because Grover's has weakened the skin? Or is there a possibility of mites actually causing Grover's?

Yo, I did get a positive diagnosis from a biopsy. Do not have any studies on mites, just exploring multiple avenues. Thanks for your reply. hilly

Hi, I usually buy it at different online health stores and just look for the best price. Just Google the name or try Amazon or eBay and compare. Let us know if it works for you so others can try it out too.

Two dermatologists have told me I have Grover’s disease although I never had a biopsy done. They also said there was “no cure” for it and nothing they could really do. I lived with it a long time but it got worse a few years ago and I started to do some research on something that would help. Because I also suffer from rosacea and blepharitis I thought Tea Tree Oil might help. Applying Tea Tree Oil directly to the lesions didn’t work though. But using the Miracle Oil did the trick. It stopped the itching and over 90% of the lesions went away. I just have a few small red spots now that don’t bother me. You can find the Miracle Oil in many online stores. I just look for the best price. Here’s some more information.

The link between Demodex mites and Grover’s disease:

Oh,J Clin Aesthet Dermatol. 2009 Jan; 2(1): 20–25.

“Increased number of Demodex mites has also been observed in perioral dermatitis, Grover's disease, eosinophilic folliculitis, blepharitis, papulovesicular facial eruptions, and papulopustular scalp eruptions.10,16 ”

We know that Grover’s disease is more common in men than woman, and especially older men. This may be why:

“Presence of mites in adolescents and young adults continues to be surprisingly low but increases from the second decade to the sixth decade of life and remains steady through the eighth decade.1,2 ”

It looks like D. brevis is probably the mite that is causing the problem:

D. brevis has a wider distribution on the body.2 Prevalence of both species increase with age, with men being more heavily colonized than women (23% vs 13%) and harboring more D. brevis than women (23% vs 9%).2

All this has led me to believe that Grover’s disease is likely an immune response by the body to the bacteria carried by the Demodex mites. If you can greatly reduce the number of mites, it gives your skin a chance to heal. I’m not a doctor, but it makes sense to me. Hope it helps!
