Covid and AFib Connection?

Posted by cece55 @cece55, Oct 8, 2021

Hello Everyone,

I am curious and would like to ask this group a question. I have AFib but had not had an event for over a year except for last November. In early February of this year I took the Phizer Vaccine for Covid and had several Afib events with one lasting over a month even with cardioversion. I ended up having an ablation in May and the electrophysiologist found an enlarged and scarred atrium.

I have been doing well and am still on Flecainade, Metoporal and Eliquis. He is about to take the Flecainade away. It is time for my booster shot and I am scared that it will put me into Afib again. My Electrophysiologist and Cardiologist at Mayo said they don't feel that the vaccine had anything to do with my Afib events starting up again.

Has anyone here experienced this? I am debating whether or not to cancel my appointment next week or just take the shot. My doctors said it is better to take the booster than to get Covid.

Thoughts?

Thank You...Blessings to all of you during this trying time. CeCe55

I have not yet actually spoken with my Cardio. My take from the msg. is , Ïf" my flutter was booster induced, I should not have a flutter incidence again. Will have to inquire about future boosters, if that is a possible trigger again. A lot is still really unknown atm. Flutter onset could be total coincidence, but there is anecdotal linkage.

Well....I am the one who started this post and I am about to take the booster on November 30th at Mayo. I have put alot of thought into this and from what I understand, since my vaccine was given to me in January, I am basically unvacinated. I live in Florida and right now the numbers are great but other places in the US are not.

I will keep you up to date and pray that my ablation holds and all will be well. I am hoping my constant Afib occurances after my vacine were unrelated.

I did talk with my cardiologists and internist again...no one has any answers.

Be well and Happy Thanksgiving. CeCe55

I just heard from a female friend , 70, A nurse, who experienced periocarditas (sp) -inflammation of the protective pericardium sac surrounds the heart, 6 hours after first Moderna. No hospitaization, resolved. Her Doc. cautioned against a follow-up vax, not sure arm how that went. Will check

Five months post ablation my cardio system has changed, which possibly typical of any invasive procedure? I'm dealing with PVC's that for me put me on the couch for 6hrs. I have spoken with my Internist who advised me to avoid the booster given my reaction to the second Mod and the resulting Afib/flutter while vigorously biking 5hrs weekly.

Heresay: A friend working in a large hospital cardio unit tells me there is a link to the vac and heart inflammation but it is NOT being reported. I'm not taking the booster.

I had the Moderna vaccines in Feb/March and experience the same thing. Mayo said “mild sleep apnea” and I started CPAP just to rule this out. The more time that passed, my afib occurrences tapered off and my doctor and cardiologist convinced me that it was coincidental and not due to the vaccine. I got the booster a week ago and my afib occurrences have again increased in frequency. We may be taking to the same folks at Mayo…

I too was told the likely cause was apnea, used a C-pap for 90 days, when my sleep doc had me in to get paid for the machine he sheepishly told me I had a MILD case and a candidate for an oral appliance.. of course he would $refer$$ me to a dentist. How I wish I hadn't had ablation, my cardio 5 mos later is altered. No boosters for me.

I have had the Moderna series including booster with absolutely no problem. I have PAF and SVT which was not triggered by these vaccines.

Sometimes things occur together without correlation and are more likely coincidental. It would be interesting to know what the rate of new onset arrythmia following vaccine is compared with new onset naturally occurring in the general population. I suspect it's lower.

You say it would be interesting to compare new onset arrhythmia post vaccine to naturally occurring arrhythmia. Not sure if interesting is the word. Folks are literally stuck between a rock (contracting covid) and a hard place (taking chances with a vaccine).

There are sites for which I remain skeptical, such as rumble, but then I ask myself, what is there to gain by telling (or showing) people what happened to you after the vaccine? Then I ask myself, what is there to gain by continually pushing a vaccine?

And there’s your answer.

For what it’s worth, my family outside my home has all been vaccinated. My family inside my home has not. The reason is because several people I personally know have had very severe negative reactions to the vaccine. One healthy 59 year old neighbor died. His coroner flat out said there was no other reason other than the vaccine.

Perhaps my town got a “bad batch?” Who knows.

So many “interesting” things to ponder.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. It sucks that we all may need to resort to midwives and witch doctors soon! DO NO HARM!! Whatever happened to that?

I decided to hold on the booster for now and scheduled my flu shot instead. I'd like to give a little more thought to this but would still like to hear comments. I am very good about double masking when needed and social distancing. CeCe55
