YAG Laser Iridotomy Complications

Posted by jigglejaws94 @jigglejaws94, Sep 25, 2016

Has anyone had a laser iridotomy with resultant "ghost images" or a crescent of light in field of vision?

My wife had both eyes done (LPI) December 2019 and every day since, she has had non stop eye / headache pain (level 8 pain). She has basically been bedridden ever since. Doctors are just treating her for migraine. It has been a living hell.. Any advice or doctor recommendation would be very appreciated. We live in Spokane, WA..

Hi Matt, so sorry that your wife is still experiencing pain and headache from a procedure that was supposed to help. I'm tagging fellow members @jigglejaws94 @dianais @sarahlinda @quincy9 to see if they have tips and/or doctor recommendations for you.

I am really sorry to hear about this. That sounds horrendous. It is very intriguing. Are her intraocular pressures high? And this severe pain is in both eyes - that is amazing and curious? Was LPI done as a preventative due to narrow angles or did she have a glaucomatous event that precipitated LPI? Does she have particularly shallow chambers noted?

It takes me so long to post I'm going to try to make this short.

If you've had this procedure; why and results.

I was told that 4 red dots will turn into one. As that never happened it started feeling like my eye ball was getting HOT. AFTER she stopped my who eye felt bigger that my other eye.

I couldn't see clearly at all at first then it got better but was never great. Two days after my lashes were sticking together. I can't see close so I built a stack of cheap readers and saw the lyrics from I Am The Walrus. Do I need to write them out?

Hi Stuckonu, I moved your message about YAG laser treatment to this existing discussion so that you can connect with others talking about this procedure. Perhaps @jigglejaws94 @dianais @sarahlinda @quincy9 can share why they choose YAG laser treatment and their results.

I had the laser iridology done in April of 2021 by Midwest eye center.

I was told I had narrow canals in my eyes. Weird because no one has ever mentioned it before and I have been to eye doctors many times for dry eyes.

Suddenly I have narrow canals?

Was told I needed the surgery to prevent glaucoma or I could go blind. My eye pressure was low and I had no real vision issues at all. Vision was good. I did have dry eyes issues however..

Was told the procedure was necessary. I asked repeatedly if the procedure would affect my vision. I was told it would not affect my
vision at all.

But that was a LIE!!! My vision was affected. I have a constant white light in my eyes. I feel like I am looking over a white cotton ball all the time. It’s much worse outside.

I am furious about it and it has really affected me a lot.

I go back and tell them and then am told that it’s rare that it happens. Wow!! Now I’m told.

While I’m there I hear a patient in next room being told exact same thing. Makes me wonder if this is being done to patients who really do not need this procedure. I have never been told I had this problem by any other eye doctor.

Beware of this procedure if you do not really need it. It can affect your vision.

I should have researched it. Once again I trusted a doctor that has now injured me and caused me permanent damage. I’m furious.

I had both YAG laser and ARGON laser done due to narrow angles on both of my eyes, however, my IOP have risen after the procedure in both the eyes by approx. 5mm Hg after a week of the procedure. My Dr. says he will check again after 2 weeks and will take it from there.

My question with fellow members is how long did it take for the eye pressure to settle to normal levels after iridotomy? I am a bit concerned of my iridotomy results.

@am155 My experience with YAG laser procedure was on both of my eyes for secondary cataracts. Symptoms were double vision and blur. My procedures were quick and easy overall. I'm sorry to hear you're having problems. I'm hoping your pressures have since gone down. How was your appointment?
