Will a scheduled colonoscopy cause a relapse of C-Diff?

Posted by minge @minge, Oct 5, 2021

Currently 3 weeks recovery from C-Diff after taking vancomycin . I have two questions.
I am scheduled for a routine colonoscopy in November (5 years since last colonoscopy). That will only be 2 months of recovery time from C-Diff. Will the colonoscopy create a relapse of C-Diff? Should I wait to have the colonoscopy since this is a routine 5 year check?
Second question is I am due for a tetanus shot (10 years since last one) Can I get the tetanus shot or will it create a relapse of C-Diff?
I do not want a relapse of C-Diff and I am only 3 weeks into recovery!

Hello, I've been reading these posts about the different antibiotics taken for c-diff. I was prescribed Vancomycin. I took them for a total of 17 days; then tested negative. So now I need to be very cautious about taking any antibiotics or as I have read, there are safe ones to take? I'm getting a new primary doctor in January, so I was told to by my oncologist nurse to be sure to report this information to them. The word "antibiotic " is firmly imprinted in my mind, as I definitely don't want to go through that horrific ordeal ever again!

Based on my husband’s experience with c diff, avoid broad-based antibiotics like clindamycin. Unfortunately, dentists often prescribe it. Several years after the c diff, my husband had one bacterial infection that required an antibiotic. His doctor prescribed a z-pack and he tolerated it well. Now we take probiotics to keep our immune systems healthy.

Hi @subie and welcome. We already have several conversations going on about C-Diff so I moved your post to a current one so that you can connect with people like @d13, @lengel, and @euqcaj

Are you currently suffering?

I'm sorry that I can't answer your question about the c-diff . I also took the antibiotic; vancomycin for c-diff though. I was told to be very careful about taking any antibiotics again without making sure the physician knows of c-diff history. Supposedly, there are some that shouldn't be prescribed, because they could bring on the c-diff again. I'm also past due for the tetanus, so l need to ask the pharmacist about that also when I get my covid booster on the 1st of December. C-diff is horrendous! I thought I wasn't going to make it. Hope you get an answer from someone on here.
