COVID vaccines and neuropathy

Posted by cue @cue, Feb 15, 2021

I am 85 with small fiber neuropathy that is getting worse. My neurologist thought it would be a good idea for me to wait with the covid vaccine and not be first in line to see how it affected other people with neuropathy. Probably because it is a new technology. Has anyone had a problem with neuropathy after receiving the vaccine? If so, which vaccine?

A while back (10+ years) I was working with a neurologist to try and figure out what to do about numbing hands and feet. He determined it was the beginning of neuropathy but was unable to find any specific cause, so I've just been living with it, and so far, so good. One of the places I work won't take the doctor's confirmation of the study for a medical exemption to a COVID shot (and I had COVID early in 2020) and I'm worried.

The stories you're all telling and what I've read has me worried about what a shot might do to my condition that so far, is only a minor inconvenience. My doctor has retired, but another in the office thinks that any reaction of any kind is worth it, because COVID is a killer. I pointed out that I had it and didn't die...

In any case, I'm hoping to find a doctor who can request and review the tests that were done back then and give me some accurate (not political) opinion as to whether this is safe, or help me support an exemption. How would I go about finding an expert who is knowledgeable with both COVID shots and neurological conditions, and who will consider my best interests over what's politically correct?

I got the J & J for my booster shot last month and had no increase of pain in my neuropathy. I had a big increase in pain for 3 months with the Pfizer one so that’s why I switched to the J&J. It has different ingredients than Pfizer and Moderna.

Was wondering if the recent flu vaccine caused any increase in neuropathy or if you did ok in those who had an increase in neuropathy pain or new neuropathy from the Covid vaccine. I’d really like to get vaccinated for the flu but I’m hesitant after what Pfizer did to me.

I don’t know about the flu vaccine but I believe that the maderna vaccine brought on my trigeminal neuralgia.

@dhamill I plan to get a flu shot tomorrow. I’ll report back in a few days. I’ve been hesitant this year. Haven’t missed a flu shot in 30 years but after Pfizer induced neuropathy I am a different person. The flu reports are already bad. I’m not sure if it’s media hype or what, but I’m going to take the plunge. Fingers crossed.

I have not gotten the covid vaccine as I am still positive for antibodies. I have a painful case of neuropathy and I do not want to chance it getting worse with the vaccine. I did just get my flu shot last week and have had no reaction to it. I’ve gotten it for at least 15 yrs and only had one reaction.

This is the first article I’ve seen that documents the neurological side effects of the Covid vaccinations.

Agreed. Finally at least some affirmation that there are potential neurological impacts from these vaccines.

I got the booster as I had no antibodies. The day after I felt like I was hit by a Mack truck. The days following I was fine.
